Cooper AT3 LT275/70/17 Load Range C vs E weight

    I contacted cooper to see what the tire weights were for LT 275/70/07 in Load Range C vs E. They told me via email that the Load range C was 50.7 and the E was 51.3. That sounds a little too close to me since one is 6 ply and the other is 10 ply. Assuming this weights are correct would I notice any difference in ride by going with the Load Range E? Would it be stiffer even though the weight is basically the same?

    They also told me the LT285/70/17 weighs 55lbs...doesn't seem that bad of a jump.

    Load ranges on current day tires does not equal actual number of plys. Load range is just how much weight the tire can bear at a certain tire pressure. So it is possible that Cooper was able to achieve a E range tire with only .6lb's of material.

    yea...I knew they were not really plys, but I still think it's minimal weight if you get the the load E range out of it. Not sure if it will be much stiffer though.

    Unless you have a specific reason to go E, I'd stick with the C. I've never had a tire that ran smoother in a higher load rating. Also, good choice on the AT3's, great tires.

    No real reason other than less likely to get a flat. I was set on load C, but when I saw the minimal weight gain it got me thinking. Assuming the weights they gave me are correct.
