I acquired some of my grandfathers tools when he passed away, shortly after the purchase of my first home in 2008. My wife wasn't crazy about the lack of a guard and sticky button on his circa 1983 craftsman. Being the amazing woman that she is, bought me a new one for my birthday.

I can't think of any projects that I'd ever take on that would require cutting anything bigger than a 2x4 or baseboard. (Crown molding did not go well, I'll be paying someone to do that on current house) What kind of projects would joe homeowner need to miter anything bigger than a 2x4 or crosscut bigger than a 2x6

Only an amazing woman takes the time to purchase tools for her husband...go with it, but next time, leave a catalog open with your desired tool lying about, with the item circled.
High praise will be returned with extra benefits!

You are lucky if your wife can purchase tools that you want. My wife refuses to buy me any tools. The few times that she tried, she was not even close to getting what I wanted. That point on, she said I was on my own for buying tools. She called me a tool snob because no matter how hard she shopped, the purchase was wrong.

Just gotta leave subtle or not so subtle hints. By not I mean leaving the Lowe's ad opened with what you want circled then she can take that to Lowe's and go "I need this". Done and done.

I have the kind of relationship with my husband where if he gets me the wrong tool or I find out I need something different, I tell him. He doesn't get his feelings hurt. He would rather I correct it, since usually these things impact us both equally. I get to make him cool things or make home upgrades if I have the right tools ;).

Awesome Wife. My girlfriend wouldn't even look at it let alone know that a guard should be there. She did buy me a sweet tool chest for my birthday last year though.
