We finally got some snow where I live and I had a chance to go out and play a little. I found an empty lot that was unplowed and had maybe 3 inches of snow on it. ABS worked as expected, slamming the brakes caused the vibration feel in the pedal and you could hear a kind of whine, which I'm guessing was the antilock brakes activating.

When I hit the gas it would clearly cut power to the engine in 2wd mode and the little "slip indicator" light would come on temporarily.

BUT... when I cornered I didn't get the expected beeping from the VSC system and it definitely fishtailed. I didn't think the VSC system would even let you fishtail a little, and this was a full kick out to the side. I know it used to work, I've heard it beeping at me in the past but I tried the corner 3 times and it never kicked in or beeped.

So, is it somehow broken or defective? How would I even test it?

Read a little more and found some threads talking about clearing and zeroing Vic, but those all were after a lift and mine is stock. Guess I could try it anyway, seems like all I need are a couple paper clips and doesn't seem to be any downsides.

Anybody know if there's anyway to do that procedure using an ultraguage?

VSC isn't perfect it's just supposed to aid you. When you were in that lot and the truck cut the power down and flashed the "slip indicator" light it meant it was working. Your VSC does in fact work. It just didn't catch you that particular time when you fishtailed. Doesn't mean it's broken.

If it continues to not kick on I would be worried, but one time? Nah.

BTW if you are stock why would you clear/zero the VSC? No need to if you don't have a lift.

    That's just my thoughts.

I know it's not a "perfect" system but I was really surprised it didn't beep at all, and I did it multiple times which is why I'm a little concerned that somethings not working right. I've had it beep at me in the past just going over a speed bump too fast so I thought a severe fishtail would for sure set it off.

I have an '09 as well. Mine only beeps when I unexpectedly get sideways while moving, like hitting a slick patch around a bend. If I break the wheels loose in gravel or snow from a dead stop, it just clicks and cuts the engine. No beep.
