Have noticed this since day one but haven't noticed any other complaints. When I fire it up and move from park to reverse or drive the taco has some very aggressive creep. Unlike nearly every other car I've owned that wait for throttle input. Is this normal behavior with this truck? Im careful to keep the brakes on but i could see my wife causing some damage in a parking lot with this kind of behavior.

I've noticed that the combination of the brakes and the cold start 'get up and go' causes the Tacoma to lurch forward easily when pulling out of the garage or parking spot in the morning... I agree it is more noticeable then previous vehicles I've owned.

Not sure if the new automatic in the 2016 has squawk control or not . The 2nd gen A750E transmission had it . Select forward and the computer commands 2nd gear rather than first gear to prevent that initial lurch . If I find some info on the new AC60 transmission , I will post it up
Is your engine still in a higher idle when this happens ?

Most of my vehicles have been manual transmissions so, while I was a little surprised the first time it jerked forward, I have to admit I really didn't think too much about it. It definitely wants to go like a corralled thoroughbred.

10 points for creativity and originality! :woot:

Unfortunately points don't do anything, but that's a pretty awesome avatar. We need more cow costumes on this forum. :D

I haven't paid attention to the RPMs on startup. Will check it out next time I take it out of the garage.

I noticed that the moment u put it in drive the RPM's jump a little high. to avoid that rush out the garage I step on the breaks put it in drive wait a couple of seconds before i start taking my foot off the breaks. that solved this issue for me!

A lot of Toyotas do this. This has been going on for years. Seems to be more constant when it's cold. Well Toyotas have a higher rev when it's cold. My guess is the transmission is engaging quickly before the Roma have a chance to drop, there for creating the lurching

I don't have the RPM jump on reverse but when I fire it up from cold start in parking lot the RPMs spike up to 3300 and it almost feels like the transmission is slipping/unable to get into gear. Any chance this could be related to the now infamous "shipped to dealer with unfilled transmission"?

Mine does it. Normal with cold start up. I put it in drive and hold the brake an extra second to keep it from jumping.

Normal as in there is a legit technical explanation and is what Tacos do? Just curios I've never had a car jump like that. I could see that behavior as potentially dangerous in a parking lot scenario. The jump is often after I release the brake as opposed to a slow crawl which is what most people would expect.

Engine idles higher after a cold start, and seems like when I first shift into drive it takes a second for the engine to change its idle to a lower RPM for driving. So if you let off the brake immediately it wants to jump, if you hold the break a bit it's calmer. Or just let off the break slowly.

OP, as others have said, on a cold start, the truck has higher idle. Higher idle = more fuel = why when you put it in drive it moves more quickly. This is very typical for an automatic. In my experience with autos, the only vehicles that have not done the exact same thing are the seriously under powered ones.

    89 S-10 did it.
    90 Volvo did it.
    90 Buick did it.
    2007 Civic did not.
    2010 CRV did not.
    2013 Taco did it.
    2016 Taco does it.

Some have done it worse than others. My S-10 had a good hard lurch that made it risky in the garage without covering the brake. My old Buick also was a risk. But I'll admit, in the last 10+ years I've not had one so severe as the 3rd Gen Taco. It takes some getting used to but there is nothing wrong with your truck. Maybe as it breaks in the affect will seem less severe?

The reason you probably haven't seen very many complaints about it is because it's completely normal.

My 96 Tacoma has a bit of a lurch, and thinking about it, it probably does do it more noticeably when cold. I just keep my foot on the brake for a bit longer after shifting.
