At a junkyard looking for parts for my 4WD conversion.

Looking for a manual front diff and manual hubs.

Found a 98 Ext cab SR5 v6 manual trans Tacoma with the J-Shift manual transfer case.

But the truck doesn't have manual locking hubs?

    Am I missing something?

Not sure they made them in 98 with manual hubs. Think they were only in the earlier models. :notsure:

That's common. That truck has what is called ADD, there's an actuator on the passenger side axle shaft near the diff that engages the axle when you shift to 4wd. Instead of manually locking hubs, a little electric motor does the same thing, kinda.

I feel like 98 or so was when they started putting ADD in...so some will have manual hubs and some won't

Did a small search. Looks like anything 98 and newer is ADD. The 95.5 to 97 Tacoma had the manual hubs.

    Damn I get it now.

For some reason i was under the impression that a manual t case meant all manual.

I guess the hunt continues lol

My friend has a 2000 tacoma with manual hubs from the factory, he said it was an option when he bought his truck.

All 1st gen t cases are manual unless you find a rare limited with a push button deal in the later models

JB, I didn't think push button t-cases were all that rare, or limited to the 'Limiteds'? Could be wrong though!

My taco isn't a limited and has the push button for 4hi but manual shift for 4lo. I think those are more common on Manual Trannys because whenever I see a manual tcase it's USUALLY on an auto tranny

My 96 has J shift and ADD. Some had it, some were manual hubs. I'm not sure but from what I can tell the same transfer case was used for either. The ADD has a controller that actuates vacuum solenoids which moves a vacuum motor. The motor moves a collar that locks and the axle to the differential when you shift into 4wd.

Push button 4wd was an option on any version, it was a charged option. (more common 03-04 due to getting rid of stock I think) this is my window sticker, notice the FB code

    BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!
Wow lot of new information for me here, I thought they were standard on the old 95-97 tacomas only. My early 97 has manual locking hubs but also has manual EVERYTHING. Didn't know you could get them after mid 97.

I have most of my receipts from everything, all inspections, tires purchased, parts bought, and personal record for oil changes, and other maintenance. :)

the one I'm missing is the exhaust I put on about 5-6 years ago... was the Walker and possibly under warranty but no proof :(
