    how? brake cleaner? i want to clean up my 97 steering box today but don't know where to begin. Does anyone have a solution? no pun intended.

    getting there....
    pressure washer may be a little better than brake cleaner.....not sure how the seals would react to the brake cleaner.

    X2 on the not knowing how the seals will fare. I have always used Gasoline, Brake Cleaner, or a sand blaster, but I have re built the parts after.....I would try the brake cleaner, and just be carefull.

    I dont know if it does or not.. it would be easier to clean each outer piece individualy then trying to fight my way into the nooks and crannys


    but if it is rediculously hard to put back together [read: above the level of a caveman] then i better not

    its proving harder to clean than i thought with a wire brush and a wire drill bit with brake cleaner.

    I always scrap as much of the thick stuff off and spray it with stuff like ^^^^ and let it soak. Surprisingly, Walmart has a similar cleaner that is cheaper and just as effective.
