Really none of your business - but I pulled them for privacy.

Four wheel drive systems are there to be tested. Most of us don't buy them to use them on snow packed streets. I'll tell you what - you pay $38K for a truck and tell me if me if it meets up to your expectations.

I would try using the 4wd options more often. Get the actuators working more frequently and maybe that will help.

What I paid for my truck is a non issue. Also, my expectations are based on reality. Bury any truck, regardless of cost, past the frame in deep snow and its not coming back out on its own. You want to test out your 4WD, that's great, we all do. Don't blame the truck when you exceed it's capabilities though, you come off sounding like a child. You over did it, you dug it out. That's a fun day outside in my book.

a child? Don't resort to name calling. I am sure you're more mature than that.

My opinion of how my 4WD works and performs is totally SUBJECTIVE and based on the past experiences of my 1982 Toyota, 2012 Tacoma OffRoad, and others.

It was a great day out there, with a whole lot of digging. A whole lot. In the end, the truck pulled itself out, vice getting towed by a chevy.

Seriously - My post was to see if anyone out there thinks I could have burnt the transmission fluid as mentioned by someone else as a possibility earlier in this post. That's what concerned about, did I mess up my truck?

FYI for the 4WD functions, the switch for the clutch is positioned so you have to press the pedal farther than usual to trigger it.

I think Range Rover has an app now where you can remotely drive the SUV off-road with your smartphone while standing outside - effectively being your own spotter. Meanwhile there's another thread on TW where someone wants to add touch-unlock door handles to the passenger side, because taking the remote out of pocket is too much of a hassle.

Did you air down to 15 psi? Remember all these electronic aids are to maximize available traction. They can't "increase" available traction. Looking at the lone photo you posted, you have all-terrain tires? A mud-terrain or "aggressive all-terrain" like GY Duratrac, Cooper STMaxx or Toyo RT with wide lugs are better for deep snow.

Part of the problem is the TRD Pro is a $32K truck with better suspension and a jacked up price disproportional to the added content. But you knew that going in.

If your transmission fluid overheats, there's a warning light that comes on in the instrument cluster. No light, no overheat. The transmission was designed to handle more torque from the 4.7L Tundra V8 and the 3.0L 1KD diesel in foreign markets, so it's slightly overbuilt for the Tacoma.

    TMG - I have DuraTracs 265/75/16.

Yeah, I knew I was getting into price wise and I don't have any regrets.

There was so much snow under it, and the outside temperature was about 20 degrees so I don't think it could have overheated. And the light didn't come on.

Just concerned I didn't mess anything up.

I thought I was mistaken earlier. But how is your 2015 TRD Offroad different then the 2015 TRD Offroad you have now? They are identical, aren't they? As far as I know, Toyota didn't change anything that would have helped you in the snow.

Any kind of binding on the driveline can make the transfer case "sticky". The book says that you can shift in/out of low while rolling, I forget the speed, but it was quite low. You can reduce the binding by putting the transmission in neutral (clutch all the way in if manual), and rolling it at a very low speed, then turning the knob from L to 4H. If it beeps at you, you need to try again. Back to 4L, wait a moment, back to 4H.

I'm very careful in the way I use language. At no point did I resort to petty names or call you a child. I said that saying the truck was at fault when you buried it to the frame made you sound like a child. There's a difference.

    Not likely for either question.

The easiest way to burn transmission fluid is to have the drivetrain bound (Like deep sand or mud, or lots of forward resistance) so the point where the torque converter in the transmission won't engage, if you're high centered (as it sounds like you were) theres not enough resistance in the drivetrain to cause burnt trans fluid.

I got them online through www.canadianchains.ca but this is a link to the manufacturer's product page http://www.qcctraction.com/products...t-truck-and-suv/u-grip-heavy-duty-chains.html

They are ridiculously aggressive and heavy duty. If you buy the V-bar chains through canadianchains.ca they upgrade you to these monsters for the same price. It's a pretty smoking deal.

Thanks Battle Born, preciate the info. There was a lot of high RPM spinning so the drive train was not bound at all.
