Getting our first big storm this year and was wondering how the tacoma performs in the snow. Got a 4wd trd and havent played in the snow yet with her. My last truck was a four wheel drive frontier and was excellent in the snow. Hope my tacomas the same. What can i expect?

Good tires and common sense go a long way in the snow.

110 inches up here, last year. Only 4 inches so far wit the most being 2 inches from one storm. This one looks like it will miss us for the most part. Can't wait to get a sizable amount to see how she does.

You got it right, just the order wrong - "Common Sense" and "Good" (subjective) tires go a long way in the snow.

Even in Minnesota its a shit show smash up derby the first snowfall of the year, then everyone comes down and remembers how to drive. Every year, never fails. That's why I take secondary roads into work and enjoy the scenery.

It's all about the tires. No traction device will help you much without the right tires for the job. We replace the original "rugged trails " with snow tires each winter, Otherwise, this Tacoma wouLd suck in snow. Low range is not usually needed unless you are in really deep snow. The last thing you need is too much torque at the wheels. The more weight the better over the rear drive wheels does wonders too.

Call for a foot in PA. First snow in the new truck and first snow in a Tacoma without a shell. Debating on my 300 pounds of tube sand or just use the snow for weight.

Remember the common sense part, but hey, it's your truck. Maybe I'll see you on TV.

I ditched the rugged trails. They were horrible in the two inches of snow we had at end of last year. This will be first real test.

In snow and ice stopping is more important than going... It amazes me how many people fly around town in 4WD and AWD vehicles and don't think it through! Glad you got through it with a minor incident.

You'll want to use this a lot in the next few days:

The tacoma has a lot of control when you're getting sideways in 4x4 mode. I dig it. I don't like the traction control...even when you turn it off...it still lurks in the background to shut-er-down when you're having too much fun. As far as regular driving in the snow is concerned, it is a tank. Very impressed.

It's a button on your dash to the left of the steering wheel. It is always on. You can push it to turn it off for 15 seconds or so, or push and hold it for 4 seconds to disable it completely. But as I mentioned, it still lurks in the background. I believe it shuts down power and brakes specific wheels to keep your truck in control. It is actually pretty impressive and works well, but is a fun-killer too. When you turn it off, you should end up with a dash light that shows a car with squiggly lines underneath it. That's you gettin' loose!
