Former FJ/Jeep guy new to the forum, living in Dayton Ohio. Bachelor life is over and had to get a "family" truck and convinced my wife a Taco fit the bill...hey its fits a car seat! Wanted to introduce myself in an Ohio thread that's actually getting some looks.

Always been a fan of the 1st gens and found a beautiful 2004 black quad cab out of Texas, not a spec of rust and so sadly it still has the faulty original frame. Rather than try and rot it out before the recall ends, I'd like to keep it nice and try and avert the issue as best I can. Wanted to see how you Ohio guys have dealt with rust. I've done a coat of HDMP like I had on my FJ...just wondering if there's a better solution or tricks that anyone else has found beneficial.

So that I haven't completely stolen this thread, is there anyone in Dayton area that would like to team up on maintenance? Also interested in future adventures, so I'll be lingering even if I'm not posting.

    Cheers,
    Sean

Fluid film is probably the best to use but it washes off over time of course

    WOOOOH another 1st gen! Welcome @Squinty !

Greg, Mark, you guys had me at dirty hippie chicks and pizza. SOR, on the other hand, is a tradeoff. It's closer, and we can probably get more people to go there on short notice.

I'd like to be ready to leave Ohio the second week of February and a RRG trip would fit in nicely with that plan. That being said, I could probably use a test run of my rig before hittin the road for good, so SOR on the 6th and 7th still appeals to me. Who's down for a RRG trip the following weekend (12-14)?

They are not cheap but I was able to get them brand new from a dealer for like a dollar over their cost, because it's not what you know, it's who you know. Part number is PTR18-35090-BR for $828.80 out the door for 4. Usually you see them for sale at about 259.00 each online + shipping.

That particular wheel has 3 different colors but I liked the bronze to go on my green truck, they also come in black or metallic grayish i think?

But in reality I went with the TRD toyota wheels because they fit perfect and you don't need any hubcentric rings or issues with fitment or quality, these also come with bead lockers and center caps, no need to buy them separately.

Oh and welcome @Squintz, there are a lot of threads on rust prevention, most of the good options will cost you about $100 a year to keep up, fluid film is most common, 3m makes kind of the same stuff just calls it something different, a lot of people swear by used oil or gear oil. Whatever you use just be sure to get it inside the frame and do it when its clean.

I should get my VIN checked.. I'm curious as to how the PO racked up over 150,000 miles in PA and the frame looks perfect. Perhaps he got the recall.

If those are the same style wheels that come on the TX pkgs, then the beadlockers are fake. Just there for style. I have them on my truck and the ring lines up with the edge of the rim. Doesn't actually touch the tire or cover the bead.

I live in Troy just North of you and have on occasion offered to host wrench days at my place. So far we've just had one successful wrench fest, but Greg (bluewaters182) and I have been discussing another wrench day to perform routine maintenance (transmission flush, brakes lines, lift kit, etc.). I'll let you know if we every nail down a date. Welcome!

    Stickers.

    Stickers!

    "Stickers, motherfuckers!!!!!!!!!!!"

TW OHIO stickers are ready to ship. I have gotten the first ones in, and checked the quality, and it is good. I'm pleased with the final product so they are now available to you ungrateful bastards.

    The stickers:

2" tall x 7" wide, die cut, outdoor grade 5 year vinyl. They ship with a transfer sheet on top to make application easy. Because the stickers are not printed, but are cut, they are somewhat modular. For example, you can move the parts around or delete components - maybe you want "OHIO" on the left, or want "OHIO" to be in line with the bottom of the sticker and not the top, or you don't want "OHIO" at all, you can move it or delete it during the application process. This also gives you the option to mix colors around by buying 2 stickers, you could have gray "TW" and red "OHIO" or any other combination you wanted.

Stickers are in stock in these colors in the 2"x7" size: Gray, red, white.

Stickers can be ordered (10 day wait) in these colors: scarlet, gloss black, flat black, blue, orange, green, reflective white.

Stickers can be ordered in any size you want (10 day wait). Sizing can go up to 30" tall x any width you want.

    Cost:

    Basic 2"x7" is $5.50 shipped.

    Buy 5, get 1 free.

Larger sizes, and / or reflective will cost slightly more, send an email to inquire (below).

How do I get one (or 6)?

You need a Paypal account, and the ability to read and write the English language.

Send an email to the sticker man, Brian Burfield: brianburfield@msn.com

You can also text or call him: 6143068133

Confirm what you want, he will respond to you with a total and confirm your shipping details, and then you send the funds via paypal (GIFT to save him some money, please) to him.

In the event you live in 1937 and don't have Paypal, email or text him (you have a phone, right? ) for other payment through the mail options.

    Miscellaneous notes:

The stickers need to be applied carefully, as there are some small bits. Take it easy peeling the transfer tape off so you don't dislodge any of the little bits.

The surface needs to be clean, dry, and warm. Use an alcohol prep pad prior to installation on the area and let the area dry completely. If you have an unheated garage then take steps to warm the application area thoroughly with a hairdryer before you try to put the sticker on or you won't be satisfied with the results.

Sizing is personal preference but I think the smaller 2"x7" size is nice - it neatly fits on an X-cab window, or the back window with our without a slider. I initially designed these to be of that size and a lighter color as I figured most people would install them on tinted windows.

It's too cold and my truck is too dirty to apply my stickers and take any pics, so I have attached basic cell phone pics from Brian:

Note the the "H" in "OHIO" is missing a piece on the below 2 shots, these were pre-production stickers. The "H" is more filled in as seen in all the other pics.

I did take this shot today of just the "TW" on the fairing for my roof basket, since that's inside, clean, and warm:

And this would be an example of the modular aspect - I took a white "TW" and added a gray "OHIO" overlay. In retrospect I should have used red for the overlay but I didn't want to waste my only red one.

After I thought about it, I peeled off the gray (which was fairly difficult as this is a good quality adhesive) and installed the red "OHIO" instead, another example of an overlay:

Edit, I washed and warmed the truck and installed this standard gray one:

These are some other samples of Brian's work - mostly. The Stig, the "Derka Derka", the X Pro, the FD cross, the cut out lettering, the thin blue line flag sticker, are all his. He does good work. If you want any other stickers hit him up.

I'll have to send him some ideas for stickers. I like these, but the thing is I want no affiliation with you bass-turds... so there's that.

Mark, I'm guessing you only put the TW on your truck because you're moving West soon and want no affiliation with this state, true or true?
