Okay so a few months back I was involved in a minor collision. The only damage to the truck was the driver's side door. Everything was acceptable until recently I noticed this "hazy" or dull look to the paint. The best way to tell in the pictures is to look at the house behind me. My question is does the door need a wetsand or is something else at play here? Any advice is appreciated. And yes I will be contacting the body shop at my convenience to get their input as well.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
It's really hard for me to tell the haze in there.

You may have better luck with getting the guys in the detailing thread to take a look at it and offer up their suggestions.

I don't see anything but some orange peel. If that's what your talking about, ultra fine with water keep hand flat / use rubber block then compound and polish and it should clear up. When compounding with electric wheel don't burn the edges of the paint and keep the wheel moving around. Be suprised if the shop won't do it for free since they painted it.

Definitely needs a wet sand and polish. What concerns me is the last pic. When I look at the houses' roofline in the reflection, there look to be pinholes, which I would guess to be solvent pop. That would make me want it recleared at least. I'll hedge my bet by saying seeing it in person is much better than a computer pic.

Yep, orange peel and solvent pop/pin holing. Take it back to the shop.

Okay I will definitely take it up with the body shop. What exactly is solvent pop? What would happen if I let this go?

Agree with the above... They need a redo on that door as that is totally unacceptable.

No question....the body shop messed up. They should give you no argument about fixing it. However, the next time around it could be worse. I have always taken my vehicles to high quality shops and have had to make a return trip on almost every repair. Yep, I'm a bit "anal".

Yea, from that last set of pics that is a shit job even looking at them on a phone. If the the factory paint isn't full of orange peel the repair shouldnt have it either. Any competent painter can spray a panel as smooth as glass with a beautiful high gloss. The challenge for a pro is trying to match the less than perfect jobs that many factories send out the door or matching faded paint.

I completely agree. I'm going to stop by there next week and discuss it with them. I'm sure they'll be willing to work something out. I just hate having to go through the hassle of dealing with the shop.

That discussion better go something like "My door looks like shit and you guys need to redo it perfectly." "Yes sir, I agree, we really screwed up. Very sorry we will take care of it asap". Nothing to work out but kissing your ass and putting you in a rental. Good luck.

As a guy that worked in a body shop for many years I can say if there a good shop they don't want you driving around like that with there name on it. They will most likely be all over it. Give them a chance.

If they were a good shop I doubt they would have given it back to him like that in the first place.

It's actually a shop I've used before, so I'm not too worried about confrontation. I'll see what they say in the upcoming days

Okay so the body shop listened to my concerns and is willing to redo the door. They didn't give me any hassle. I'll give updates within the following weeks.

Wow that is one horrible paint job there! Looks like some pretty serious amateur work to put it mildly. Not only did they screw up big time they gave you the keys in hopes you wouldn't notice their poor efforts. Good luck you will need it.
