And the commercials you speak of, are only one or two and 10 to 15 seconds long

Gotta give the premium a shot then. The free version is somewhat repetitive artist wise, which I dont mind. Still 100% better then any FM station though.

I haven't had that many songs recycled at all. You can also change the station at will to something similar if not the same. I doubt the usual drive lasts more than an hour and that's for commuting. Even then, I've ran Pandora on my computer at home and rarely notice a repeat. You can just skip it anyways... So even if you paid for the Pandora which is 3.99*12, thats 47.88+tax a year versus 60 - 180 bucks (depending if you swing a discount/deal) plus royalties and taxes. As smugly said, it's a perfectly viable option and if you choose to pay, then there are no commercials. I don't like commercials either but after 7 years of satellite, I'm done with them, the commercials on Pandora are brief and few and far in between. I also have everything I normally listen to on my iPhone.

Don't get me wrong I'm fan of pandora. I listen to it everyday. But that being said, a day doesnt go by where I dont hear the same Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam or Sounds Garden song each consecutive day. That's all Im saying. Yeah on a given day, nothing repeats which is great, just wish they went deeper into an artist cataloug vs playing Main in a box every frigin day!

Never got an answer on my other question, does satellite radio power the GPS signal and traffic or is that the HD radio and SD card?

After some research, satellite radio is a separate antennae and is not required to use the Navigational Unit. That would be stupid if it was but I wasn't sure. That seals the deal on XM, come March, good riddance. Pandora and iTunes will be my go to for everything.

At the end of the day I took a couple hundred CDs and turned them into MP3s. I have almost 40GBs of music. 32GB stick and I am amazed I can call out a tune and the system will find and play it off the USB.......Premium and Tech with JBL...priceless.

The traffic I know is tied to Sirius, but believe you get that service for 12 month trial. I had 2014 Tundra that the XM worked for 3 months then shut off, but the traffic remained until the first year went by. Then it stopped as well. If you look at the crap they send your the expensive 14.99 or 17.99 monthly price includes traffic updates. Toyota may have changed but this is the way it was for me.

Found it. Traffic and weather are linked to XM.

No the traffic and weather are based on the HD radio. I confirmed this yesterday if you look up the entune app and system on Toyota. That information you posted above is additional provided by Satellite that is in no way tied to the Nav and unit itself. XM does provide it's own traffic and weather though which relays through the nav system. Being that HD is free, I see no reason to continue my subscription once the trial is up.

    http://www.toyota.com/entune/support/entune-premium-audio/data-services/weather.html#!tacoma/2016

Go to the above link, select Tacoma and then the year. From there select weather or apps within the entune and then scroll down to the FAQ where it clearly states that it is based off of the HD radio and then your entune app as a backup if HD is not available.

Furthermore if you look up HD radio, you can see how it works. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_Radio

I'm not sure what the Tacoma's without the premium entune system have so keep in mind this is for those with the premium tech package and/or the Limited Tacoma. I think they all come with HD radio though.

HOw much data do the sites like Pandora use up? We don't use even 3GB a month shared. But I don't use streaming services as I have my own music and there isn't much new music I care for.

1 Gig is about 33 hours based on their site. They use 64 Kbps for AAC audio. .02 gigs an hour basically. I tried it out last night on the way home and it was fantastic. I set the Pandora app to use high quality audio, I'm assuming without looking that means they are using a wideband codec. I'm switching to T-Mobile after my tax refund, their plans there let you get video and audio streaming free based on what apps they currently support and Pandora is one of them.
