Yep...I noticed it while parking the sport at the dealership...but where it would bother me would be tight quarters off-road, picking my way around trees and rocks.

Again everybody looks over the electric boosted brake master cylinder on the OR. Superior to the Sport/SR5/SR MC in every way.

I am only 5'11" the hood scoop for me does not block my view of the road. The rear view mirror does.

TRD OR is cool, Crawl control I don't really understand though. I feel like I do better then the computer. I do like MTS and I am not sure if TRD sport can have a rear diff locker. if it can't then the OR is needed.

For the life of me...I never could understand WHY anyone would buy a brand new truck and WANT to take it over rocks/trees/dead animals/mudholes/etc....I mean I get the thrill of off roading...but can't u just build urself a used vehicle that's made for that purpose only? Like an old Jeep or something? Why would u take the chance of F'ing up ur new vehicle? I own 2 side by sides for my fun and games...I'd never think about driving my new truck up some dirt mountain road just for shits and giggles!

I agree 100 percent. I cant afford a new truck then try and see how fast I can damage it.

I live in Southern California. Weather is always nice and I never take the truck off road. The most dirt it ever sees is from the dirt parking lot at the bottom of the trail when I go mountain biking.

A TRD Sport 4x2 Double Cab Long Bed works best for me. I have no use for the Off Road and find people who buy the Off Road and just drive it on the street should have picked up the Sport but thats just my opinion.

Also, the scoop doesn't block any of my view.

We like to go camping in back country and not have to hike 10 miles to get there. I also do a lot of hunting out on some pretty rough desert BLM land and ranches. We also go to the mountains to play in the snow or hang out in the cabin. There have been times when we get 2 feet of snow overnight and you aren't getting out of there without 4x4. I like the creature comforts, technology, reliability and dependability of the newer truck although I did have an older 2003 4x4 extended cab Ranger I used for a while and it worked well, it does not offer many of these other quality and comfort features. It was time to upgrade and the 4x4 is the only way to go for me.

If you use your brain, you can do plenty of off road driving without causing damage to the vehicle while enjoying the modern creature comforts and quality of a new ride.

I will be using it as a daily driver, along with taking it on camping/ hiking trips and 1-4 times a year we will take it on a trip, first stop the utah big 5 route, looks absolutely gorgeous. the only thing that has me on edge is that people say the sport likes to go a little faster because of the air dam, and the offroad version shifts alot, i will test drive both, i just wanted recommendations :)

the off-road does not have the air dam. It is the only one of the trim's that does not. You are right it doesn't affect speed, but it affects MPG.

Also, its not only scoop vs. locker. It is also 17" wheels, tighter suspension, and color-matched fender flares, and color matched bumper (if not upgrading to Tech package) as far as the Sport goes. Which, while not mattering to everyone, does to some.

    Depends what your intentions are

I used to wheel quite a bit, but thats why I bought a Jeep, I'm kind of over that now, so I went for the TRD sport.
Even that being said, If I was getting a vehicle for off roading I wouldnt buy a tacoma in the first place... my Jeep was insane off road and I just can't fathom the amount of money you would need to spend on a truck to make it do the same.

TRD Sport - Fake hood scoop, yeah, whatever, it still looks cool so I'm over that. Also, it doesn't block my vision at all, yes you can see it but comon now I'm sure we can all figure out where the front bumper is after parking the truck a dozen times and getting used to the spacing.

    Color matched fender flares FTW

    Who keeps stock tires anyways?

TRD sport comes with blind spot monitors too

TRD sport also has the bilstiens, real nice for spirited road driving, and can still handle the backroads.

I'm sure I can handle my truck without crawl control.. I don't really see the point in this feature, seems like more an option for people that don't know how to drive. If it was really a big advancement... wouldn't all technical off road rigs have this..

    IMO

Yes, the toyota engineers took the time to design it and install it on all trims except the off-road because it is useless and doesn't help MPG on the highway at all

Also, glad to know I just cared about the scoop. Thanks for letting me know. Silly me thought I wanted the bigger wheels and a color-matched truck. Yes, the suspension is the same, but both the SR5 and the Sport have a tighter suspension than the off-road. Since I wanted the interior upgrades of the TRD level, it was an easy decision for me. Since I don't go off-road, I didn't want that type of ride.

Not sure about where you're at in Canada but here in the States they come with Hitachi shocks.
