I don't have my shell yet, but on my last truck I pulled mine off 5-6 times a year, a simple cobbled together lift system in the garage made it pretty easy for one person. I expect I'll pretty much do the same with this truck. On my last truck I think I replaced the bulb seal once in 6 or 7 years. Probably didn't even need to bother really...

As to why not tonneau, I find them to be a waste of utility. Everything has to fit underneath it, and in the case of the Toyota one, there are plenty of places where you don't even get full rail height clearance and the last panel is fixed. Can't wait to get it off my truck.

I understand the tonneau has function and utility. Just not the kind I need . First off is the dog(s). Living space. Overall form. I like the shape of the truck alone which the tonneau supports, but I need the increased functionality of the canopy.

Instead of taking off my gas cover and sending it to leer, they sent me 8 different magnetic grey metalic varients to colour match it myself. Just send them the code on the back.

It's a poor picture, but the silver object is flush with the interior top of the shell (pressed into carpet), the tape measure pressed in to the carpet.

Depth of that center section appears to be about 7/8" ...

Looking dead-on, there is about 1/4" gap between the shell and the top of the sticker. I didn't move the decals and probably won't.

    Thanks!

Mine measures 1/2", so that is probably the primary difference. My replacement shell is supposed to be in next week, so your timing was perfect. Now I can have some confidence that they got it right this time.

    Did you get rod holders?

    Np.

I don't fish, so I didn't get the rod holders. I wanted the extra strength for a roof top tent.

From my understanding, the rod holders are part of the sportsman's package. I don't need them either (5' bed anyway) but I figure it's another way to make sure I got the package I paid for. Maybe they don't come on the 5' bed?

I specifically requested they not be included. I'm not sure bed-by-bed. When I ordered, 3.5 months ago at this point, there were tradeoffs about what one got discounts on...and that could be vendor dependent...But I recall a discount on the racks on top, which I wanted. Rod holders, I did not want.

OK, thanks for the lowdown. I now feel ready to do the receipt inspection on my shell.

How do you like that leer? I'm looking at this one and the ARE Overland. May I ask what it set ya back? BTW, looks great on your truck.

Nice looking cap! I have a leer Xr for shortbed on order and should get it next week. Are you happy with the fit? Noticed any change in mpg?

I had a cap on my last Tacoma. My problem is when something is at the front of the bed. Bad knees prevent me from crawling in to get it. Has anyone put a bed slider in a 2016 yet?

With the ARE V and two yak bars. I'll mod it up a bit later.

Very happy with the fit. However you might notice some water coming in in the Cab corners of the bed. This is due to the Truck, not the cap. You can find those openings with a flashlight and some black silicone did the trick for me. No noticable MPG difference, but a strong sidewind on an icy road has more torque on the truck.

Love the Leer. I just don't like the metal frame around the back window of the ARE, but they seem nice too. About 3K$ canadian (roughly 2250 US) with all the goodies: Remote lock, side doors, Thule roof rack, Liner, top hooks...
