how do you keep your items such as washmits and detailing rags clean and stored when not in use? I want to ensure small pieces of dirt and such don't get into my fabric and then leave their mark on my truck

I use a bucket with a grit guard in it. I rinse out all the mitts and such, also rinse out the bucket and store it all in the bucket.

What about items that you wish to stay dry?

    Can you wash microfiber cloths?

I do wash mine, I have a bucket in the garage and let them build up. Then wash them all. Put them back in the garage, as far as it all staying dry. The bucket is rinsed out as well as all the mitts. Put them in the bucket and they will dry

I keep wash mitts, bug sponges, etc in gallon ziplock bags after they dry. Also, my one dedicated microfiber for wiping down my gauge cluster! For detail and drying towels, I just keep them in cheap covered plastic bins from Home Depot.

My nice microfiber towels are stored in small Rubbermaid containers on a shelf in the garage. The clear containers allow me to see how many clean ones are left and it keeps the dirt off of them. Other towels are stored in a small cabinet.

My wash mitts sit in a wire basket that hangs on pegboard on the wall. Wet towels hang on pegs on the wall to dry.

Bilstein 5100s all around, Toyo All Terrain AT II 285/70/17, Custom Car Grill, front windows tinted at 35%, door still protectors, bed Matt, tail gate lettering, center console organizer and detailed with Adam's Polishes products
I use a Micro Fiber Rejuvenator (Adam's Polishes) to wash my good towels on hot then dry them on low heat. They come out nice and soft. My tire towels and other dirty places I wash with regular detergent because they will never touch my paint. All my towels are in plastic draws in my garage. Each draw has a certain towel in it. Yes, I'm OCD with some things. My good towels are in a gallon zip loc bag in there labeled draw.
