I have been thinking about lifting my 2015 MGDC trd off road since the day before I bought it. It currently has 6k miles. I do not plan on doing any hard core off road but would like to get a little more aggressive look, some 265/75/16 and some method wheels. My question is, is rough country really that bad for a mostly highway driven 4x4? I had the rough country lift on a 1st Gen with no problems. And my 05 F150 FX4 I had, also had a 2.5 in spacer with no problems. Everyone on here seems to bash the RC Spacer, just wondering is it that bad? Also post pics if you have that lift!

    MERICA!!!!

I don’t really know anything about it. generally i think most guys on here stay away from spacers all together.

also you can fit 265/75R16 with no lift or anything and have no problems if thats all you really want.

Maybe the bolt was over tightened but its almost impossible to bend a strut there

I've heard a spacer puts more strain on the strut but I think it depends on application. I wouldn't go rock climbing with a spacer. Plus there are no rocks on outer banks nc...lol

6+ years on 4 different toyotas driving a couple hundred thousand miles and no issues. I never jumped any of them or raced the baja so there was no risk of bending a $40 easily replaceable shock.

Just remember that ANY shock can break. Lots of pictures of broken 5100's out there WITHOUT the use of a spacer.

It can also happen to any other shock WITHOUT a spacer. Shit can and will break at anytime no matter what. For the tens of thousands of people who run spacers with absolutely no issues I'm sure there will be the occasional issue depending on use and condition of the vehicle.
If you space the bump stops down a small amount you won't even have to worry about it.

I feel like people who have not actually owned a rough country spacer lift should not be allowed to chime in.

This. Which usually includes people actually running a spacer lift.... Because if you knew anything about suspension they wouldn't be on the truck.

Some think those 5100 Are the king of all shocks and do thing with them they can't handle. If you stay on the street, sure go ahead and do your spacer lift, but you need to know that it can be damaging and it's going to ride like crap.

Would you put something in your engine that may damage it but looks cool? No. Shouldn't do the same with your suspension either.

Just do the lift the right way. Get some adjustable 5100, run them on stock or better get different coils. There not that expensive and way better then a spacer. Or an OEM lift.
