I have owned several trucks in my short lifetime and most have been 4WD. When I owned the 09 and 10 Silverado, they both had the knob for the drive train options. 2WD, Auto, 4H, and 4L. I think the Auto mode was similar to AWD. The Taco doesn't have this option on my '13. I have always struggle with leaving it in 4WD when driving around in this weather since part of the road could be plowed and my neighborhood isn't. When turning at a stretch where it has been plowed, it has always make me cringed because you can feel it. When off-roadin', it makes sense to keep it in full 4WD. Will Toyota ever going to put this option in? or should I not worry about it an keep using 4H in this case? In the Silverado Auto mode, it was very smooth to drive in this type of weather. Another thing that I have also noticed is that, the traction is better than the Taco. Is this due to weight of the truck?

Dry road, 2wd, go onto roads that are not plowed, put in 4wd. You can do it on the fly so there is minimal effort needed.

I'm here in NC too. I'm leaving it in 2WD until I hit an icy hill.

I'm pleased with how well I'm able to get around in the snow with my TRD Sport. I've got a fairly long steep driveway with a good 6" of snow and ice. I'm able to get up the driveway with no problems. And that's with the less than great Dunlop OEM tires.
