Eh what? You think that apple holds back? They give you everything they've got. Their problem is that they need to wait for google to implement something new, so they can make a crappy copy of it 2 years later and claim to have invented it.

I think he's referring to the fact that Apple frequently uses older tech than what is available on other products. I.E. they are still using LCD's when most other manufacturers are using LED and AMOLED. Android phones have literally been using AMOLED for at least 5 years. Apple also uses previous gen processors on it's computers.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still an Apple fan. I don't get caught up on specs. I use Windows for work (only because they supply the computer) and Macs at home. I pretty much want to break my work computer everyday.

That isn't a matter of them holding back though, that's a matter of them not having access to the technology. For instance, AMOLED displays are basically ALL made by Samsung. And while Samsung is happy to sell CPUs to apple (sometimes), the CPU isn't something that the end user really experiences, so they might as well take apple's money. With the display technology though, you can bet that they aren't giving a reasonable price on it.

I do have something to say about amoled though... its not all its cracked up to be. It takes a far higher resolution on amoled to match the visual quality of an LCD. The reason for this, is that they CHEAT on the resolution by using something they call and RGBG subpixel matrix, where one "pixel" isn't made up of RGBG, but rather just RG. The next pixel is a BG. Which means that the display is only full resolution in the green channel. The red and blue is literally chopped in half.

Now while you can crank up the resolution until you can't see the difference, the higher resolution takes more power to drive.

For what its worth, not all Android phones use AMOLED. Some do, some don't. Nexus 5x is a 5.2" 1920x1080 LCD, the Nexus 6p is a 5.7" 2560x1440 AMOLED. They are both current model phones.

Of course, this isn't really what I was talking about. The level of HARDWARE technology is one thing to think about, where a lot of it is just silly nonsense (for instance, apple's premature move to 64bit processing on **MOBILE**, which doesn't actually benefit from 64bit), but the big thing is in the SOFTWARE. Basically everything they implement in SOFTWARE, comes a year or two AFTER it is implemented in Android. Then they make a big show and convince everybody that THEY invented it, then sue everybody who "copies" them.

Well that makes one of us. I can't stand apple. I can't stand microsoft either. They're BOTH horribly unusable. Microsoft because of the most unstable and uncompromising code on the planet, and apple for their fanatic drive for maximum simplicity, at the expense of function. You can't do anything with either of them.

I'd put two on there, not just on one side. You can get the kind that have a square head and require a "key". They look like this- then keep the "key" in your glovebox in case you ever need to remove the tailgate.

Yes. I have a '15 Tacoma DCSB and installed the PL5500. Amazon says now that it "does not fit your vehicle" but I have proof otherwise.

This was my solution. I posted it in the "Let's see your frugal DIY mods!" thread. I didn't think anybody saw it. Thanks for your comment!

You can put them on both sides if you would like, but the one on the driver side won't do anything. The tailgate is only slotted on the passenger side.

Why not just the Master Lock for tailgates, I've seen them from 17, to 25 bucks depending where you get them.8253DAT_3_1000.jpg

There was an issue with this not working as advertised. I bought one for my 2012 dcsb and ended up getting a refund (as did several others) as someone here at TW discovered tailgate could still be easily removed. Note the specs say fits most and then it lists manufacturers. I don't remember details but for some years it worked and others not. Refunds were issued when requested by some. I ended up by Gatekeeper by Jimmiejammer. You can probably do a search here and find out specifics, just a heads up- may have been corrected but I would make sure.

Dog friendly, with dog snot on inside windows, with of course a/c! Mag 16 inch wheels from a Mazda.
Purchased a Mcgard 76029 Tailgate Lock and realized it's body was a hair too tall. Instead of returning it I ground off the top part of the body w/name an 1/8 of an inch and a 1/8 of an inch off the bottom corner heal. This allow enough clearance in closing the tailgate without binding. Also installed two plastic tie wrap in each key hole, so it makes it a little more difficult for thieves in removing the tailgate support cables.
