    Hey guys, on my 07 Tacoma I've got an issue with the blower motor. The motor itself is very new. It was replaced this last summer with an oem one do to the squeak issue. The problem now, is that about 5 seconds after starting the truck, it will sometimes turn completely off, and come back on after about 2 seconds. Sometimes it will do this once, and sometimes twice. This is all without touching the speed control switch. I'm thinking the blower motor resistor, but not really sure. Ideas?? Thanks!!

    Get down and unplug the electrical connector. Is it burned or really toasty looking? If so it needs to be replaced.

    I'm guessing the resistor ... mine started acting flakey over the Summer, so I replaced both the motor and resistor at the same time in October, as both are known failure points. :notsure:

    Leave it on hi to see if any of the symptoms occur. When you put it in hi, it bypass the resistor. If none of the symptoms come back then you know it's the resistor.

    I didn't know this, but it is in line with the "acting flakey" symptoms I experienced over the Summer, worked fine in the HI setting, but flakey (intermittent) in lower settings.

    Nothing spectacular yet!
    I had the same problem recently and I thought it was the resistor but it was actually the plug getting burnt and not making good contact anymore. It would work on high due to the way the plug was wired but in the end I ended up having to fix the connection issue.

    Took out the plug and sure enough, there was a spot on it that was a little brown, nothing bad at all, but it had definitely been warm. So what I did was scrape it out with a screw driver, and then cleaned the connection out with electrical cleaner. Then I took the resistor itself out, and slightly bent the pin to make better connection inside the plug. Hopefully fixes the problem. Thanks everyone!! You rock!

    Toyota does sell a replacement cable end if needed. There is a thread here somewhere that has a part number. You will either need to Butt Splice the wires or solder and heat shrink them.

    Plug = 82141-04M40
    Resistor = 87138-04052

    Here it is:

    Thanks for the info man! Definitely keep that in mind if it starts acting up again. So far so good though!

    Root cause of the burn is poor mfg tolerancing on the GM-made resistor connector. Not sure if it's just the pin or if the connector molding also contributes to the problem. If it recurs, buy the updated resistor shown in Jimmyh's photo; it's made by Denso and has better tolerances.

    Man! I'm so glad I found this thread. I'm gonna check my connector out. Having same issues reported in this thread on my 09. Thanks!

    Typically resistors fail completely, not intermittently.

    My '09 had the burnt connector too. FWIW since our trucks use the Delphi HVAC system many of the parts are identical to what a lot GM trucks have and also experience the same problem. GM has a HD version of the connector with larger capacity wires.

    The problem isn't the wires, it is a loose connection between the pin and the female terminal.

    Haven't had a single problem since I bent the pin to make better connection.

    Hey my blower started doing the same shit last summer. I'm pretty sure it only happens with the fan set to HI only. My (dumb?) question is, where on the truck are these 2 parts found?? Under the hood? Under the dash...? Thanks

    So I just remove the seat and pull up the carpet and there's the fan motor down there? That seems like a weird ass spot

    Inside the truck.

    No. Under the dash where the ventilation system is located. Behind the glove compartment.

    Maybe you should consider taking it to a shop. :rolleyes:
