Halogen lamps have a predictable beam pattern that the stock housing accounts for and aims. HIDs have a 360 degree beam pattern that when introduced to a halogen housing (like our trucks have) causes them to essentially scatter light carelessly. No longer is the light aimed just at the road when the low beam is on. Your friend is blinding oncomers and actually getting lower light output. The reason it seems like more output is because the color profile of an HID is a cooler white that is easily distinguished in the dark not because it is actually brighter. In short don't put HIDs in halogen housings.

ahh. yeah i know :) thats why I never bought them. I know the 9003s have a small reflective shield to prevent light from going where it doesnt need to. and the HIDs he has don't have that shield. honestly though, ive seen his headlights oncoming. theyre not blinding cause of how blue they are. but for some reason they reflect very well off anything reflective :notsure:

Be my guest. I think mr code seven knows full well the implications of running an hid bub in a housing with a reflector designed for a halogen bulb. No matter how selfish the behavior.

Zane, say what needs to be said for the public record.

Just because something can be done, does not mean is should be done.
