Any members can discuss their experience with true snow tires. Many members think their Duratracks or KO2s are great winter tires but they perform poorly on ice and hard pack.

    improved toyota goodness.
i'm a big believer in the right tire for the job and so a couple of years ago i bought a set of mastercraft dedicated snow/winter tires- i haven't ben back since as my goodyear authority a/t's do better 2x over in every winter condition (including ice) and especially packed snow as they will chew through it very quickly... the extra bonus being that i don't have to swap for the summer or store 4 extra tires...

and they will also do the mud we get in abundance between the snows that the mastercraft's would not make it through...

i have also tried hercules avalanche winter tires and they did slightly better in the snow than the mastercraft's but i found that in the mud and rain i resorted to 4wd more often than i have with the authority's or any summer tire excluding a set of agressive m/t's that i also tried...

the m/t's are without a doubt the worst on ice and rain... an accurate comparison would be axle dollies with 4 steering casters ea. strapped on the axle instead of tires because you are going whatever way gravity&momentum dictate on ice...

I run Hankook Dynapro ATMs in the summer. They are severe snow rated, but because they are not a dedicated snow tire I run Yokohama Geolandar G072s in the winter. The truck feels like it's on rails with them.

it could be that the 2 tire brands i have tried are 2 of the bottom rated for snow/winter tires out there... i have several friends that swear by the bridgestone blizzaks in the snow although i have never had them on my truck as of yet...
