That's too simple. There needs to be encrypted directions, secret handshakes and codes involved. Fess up.

Or rub it with bar soap.

The soap makes a layer the soot sticks to and it washes off with the soap.

I use a GoToob full of Dr. Bronners 18-in-1 soap for camping (and travel) and if left on something hard to clean it will be as easy as can be after sitting a bit. Stuff is all natural, biodegradable (LNT) and concentrated so a few ounces goes a long way. When camping or traveling (and home) I use it for my dishes, brushing my teeth, washing my hair, basically everything.

Just a bunch of old crap
A good old green scotch-brite pad (the kind without the sponge) works fantastic as a re-usable soot cleaner. Works like magic on titanium pots at least. Just a little water and no soap, and some elbow grease. Works faster than acrylic scrubbers or even steel wool (no rust or fast degredation). Easiest cleaning pad to carry for backpacking.

My work changed their health and wellness policy to include exercise equipment in being included for reimbursement out of my $600 yearly allowance. Just got the ok on saying climbing gear can be considered exercise equipment :woot:

Our problem is that we try to go low-impact, and the biodegradeable stuff that we use doesn't seem to do a very good job of keeping the soot off. I used to use the soap trick with just liquid dish soap and it worked great, but now we try to avoid using soap unless we can dig a cathole to pour the used dishwater into.

I'll have to remember the scotchbrite trick, though!

    I can appreciate this.

I have a friend (2.. a couple) who insist on using their Bronners to bathe in rivers and lakes in while camping.

I want to drown them both.

Haha sounds like me in my 4 different pairs of Kuhl pants. I used 2 of them at a work conference last week, but I've used the same pairs out on the trail.
