More like whatever you rig up has to be DOT approved in the US

    Transport Canada approved up here

    Look at @colinb17 build thread.
He's got a 12gal aux tank with elect pump transfer to the main tank.

That is a good point, a lot of these setups are probably not legal in some/many/all states. Safety is a bigger concern in my mind than legality thought.

Do you have it wired and plumbed to transfer gas into the filler spout on your main tank?

yes, about half way between the gas cap and the entrance to the tank. spliced into the rubber isolator between the two pieces.

here's what I sent another member not too long ago who asked about it:

    "
it's one of those things that is really a pain in the ass for how simple it is.....

I tapped into the filler neck, where there is a rubber section a little less than a foot long. this rubber piece is there to handle the movement between the tank, and the body panel that the filler cap/assembly is mounted to.

I had to make up a "T" to splice in a new hose. use copper pieces that I seat together. I forget what size the one I ended up using is, so you'll have to experiment with the sizes once you get the rubber piece out.

I ended up having to make two pieces, since the first one i made didn't fit.
here's the two different sizes I made up:
I made sure to leak test them before installing

here it is spliced into the filler neck. remember, you're not just cutting the piece in two, you need to remove a section of it, equal to the width of the inlet of the T.

the hose coming off the top is what leads to the aux fuel pumps/tank.

    and here it is installed

on the tank end, I ran a T out the top of the tank, which split it to two fuel pumps. this gets me faster transfer rates, and redundancy, if one pump were to fail.

after the pumps, there is another T that brings it back to a single line. this is the line that goes into the Copper T on the filler neck.

here's the smaller T that is used after the pumps, to bring it all to the single larger line that foes to the filler neck.

I have zero concerns about this setup from a safety standpoint.
I do throw a code every now and then. something along the lines of "very small pressure leak in fuel storage system". essentially what's happening is that the volume of the new tank allows for enough expansion and contraction of air when the temperature fluctuates, that the computer things there is a leak. the simple fix for this, is to put an air tight ball/globe valve somewhere just before the T into the filler neck. that way, you are maintaining the stock air volume, and it will show no "pressure leaks". if you are using electric transfer pumps, it would be very easy to get an electric ball valve, and wire it to the pumps, so that when the pumps are off, the valve is closed, and when you flip the pumps on, that same switch opens the valve.

I would keep it simple. But a nice plastic fuel cell with the outlet on the bottom. They just use gravity feed into your stock tank. Then you won't have to worry about wiring or having pump issues.

If you don't want to get out of the truck to open a valve then just get an electric one.

since the initial install, I also added a filler hose so I don't have to crawl into the bed every time I want to fill the tank. a lot more convenient for fill-ups now, having both fuel caps a foot and a half apart

    Very nice set up @colinb17

Was there a reason you used a separate filler neck and not a transfer pump from the old tank to the new tank?
