Lef wiring harness. Help please!!!

Alright I'm purchasing a set of flush mount led cubes to put in my rear bumper as backup lights. Do I need a wiring harness or can I tap into the factory backup light wires so that they'll turn on when I shift into reverse? If I need a wiring harness, who knows a dual output harness that is long enough to reach from my battery to my rear bumper? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks so much

Amazon sells wiring kits too, should see them in the "people also bought/looked at" section. much cheaper and same quality as the Rigids ($52 for wiring?, eek)

And is the power supplied to the backup lights right now enough to support the current ones and the new led's. The reason I'm getting led's is because the original owner of my truck had them smoked and they put out no light at all

 

most wiring "kits" come with a relay and you just have to "tap" into the reverse light wire so it sends the "on" signal to the relay.

Okay. How would I get it to reach to the rear of the truck though? Or is that when "tapping into the stock wires" comes into play?

 

basically buy the length you need to reach from the rear lights to the cab for the switch, and the battery for the pos/neg hookups. you will have to extend the wire if you can't find one long enough. most likely the one from the relay to the Pos(+) on the battery. the Neg(-) can probably be grounded to the frame/metal.

find the wire coming from the reverse light behind the left tail light before the connector (vehicle side, and fyi the white/bk stripe is the ground wire for all bulbs) and just tap into it back there.

 

Yeah I can't find any that long. So what will I need to get? A wiring harness for the battery with a relay and some wire to run to the rear bumper? I'm used to just buying a wiring harness the right size and putting it on with a rocker switch but I was hoping to have the bumper lights that I install to turn on when I shift into reverse. Sorry I'm new to "tapping into" wires and whatnot

 

If you just want them to turn on when "reverse" and not use them separately (also always on for reverse) then buy a long piece of wire to run to the battery from the rear. get the relay and tap into the "reverse" wire like I mentioned before. run ground to the nearest metal part and then run the wire to the LEDs (can ground them to the bumper). no switch/harness needed.

If you want to use them independently you will need a switch.

 

Okay sweet thanks. Okay okay last question. If I get a wiring harness and rocker switch so that I can turn them on independently, how would I make the wiring harness reach. They don't sell them long enough?

the only problem with using a switch is you have to be in reverse to use the lights otherwise the "on" signal would not be sent to the relay.
