I would say 1997 to 2000. 1st gen ran from 95 to 2004, but the face lifts changed grilles, lights and bumpers, so 95 to 96 and 2001 to 2004 will not work without more work - doable though if you can find all the parts and you can do the extra work required.

Thank you for that. I was hoping that a 4Runner might be a possible doner for some of it. Never really looked that close at the sheet metal on one, but parts for them are easy to find here. The Tacomas, not so easy.

I have seen a truck here in town with full 4-runner front end. It is doable, since the early front runners were based on the trucks. But as with the face lifted 1st gen trucks, you will have to replace more than just the damaged parts since the fenders, lights etc. are different. The basic frame underneath is the same, so if you can get the whole front end of a 4-runner you will be able to pull both fenders, hood grille, lights, bumper etc. There are a few brackets that will have to be swapped out including the radiator support that the lights bolt to. This will give the truck a different look of course, so I don't know if this is what you are after, or if you just want to restore it to the original looks. In that case only the 1997 to 2000 will work.
