Here's another good option for rear diff other than the diaper mod, the marlin full face diff armor works pretty well. Burned one on for a buddy the other week.

What is the proper sequence of events for welding one of these on? I can't imagine the fluid getting hot during welding is good but it looks like here it is draining after the welding occurred. Is it better to drain the diff and weld or weld then replace the fluid?

I stitch welded it in alternating between sides, top, and bottom while the diff still had fluid. Then when I was finished we drained the diff and filled with fresh gear oil

    ...too much shit to list.
Given that it appears some think that "preload" means turning a collar on a shock, perhaps some context and definition behind preload would be beneficial.
Preload is an artifact of the SPRING, not the shock. Any amount of static compression on the spring is considered preload. By definition, pre-load: something loaded or applied as a load beforehand. This can be achieved by compressing a spring that is too long to fit on a given shock body, by using preload spacers, or by rotating a preload collar.

    Some good info from eibach:
    http://eibach.com/m-america/en/motorsport/products/suspension-worksheet

    Stitch welding.
You can do it either way. Draining not required, but a good idea to do the work while you're planning on doing a diff fluid change as it will cook some of the oil.

Here is a noob question I cant seem to find when searching (might not know what exactly to search for). But since MT is partly defined as "quality shock with the top out spacer removed" (ie. extended travel?), what lengths of extended travel are we looking at as far as stock replacements go?

For example, king lists its performance shocks in lengths of 6, 8, 10, 12, etc.. Then I see numbers here of 15.9 col. and 26.8 ext. (or 11"). What I'm wondering is where do we sit in the numbers? what is OE travel vs the longest travel one can go using stock locations or bolt-ons? so when someone like myself orders from Headstrong or DSM they know to ask for a length that fits their needs rather than whatever the "kit" length may be when you order extended travel? and at what point may a LCA be needed before going longer?

I did a mini truss during the 3 link build and even with taking time to stitch weld there was smoke ( I.E.: fluid cooking off ) pouring out of the diff breather hole which BTW you should unscrew the diff breather to allow the expanding gasses to escape while welding. I did change my fluid after however despite all of the smoke the fluid was still bright and clear.

For the front end King has a specific " extended travel " CO, no guess work needed there. For the rear you can exceed OE travel numbers by adding a new leaf pack. The #1 rule with the rear end is to buy your new leaf pack first, install it and cycle it yourself to measure the compressed and extended length then simply order the shock that most closely fits those specs.

I've always found the "I'm glad I bought 14" springs instead of 13" springs because I barely have any threads showing now" guy interesting.

Who defined mt as using a "quality" shock? When the words "mid" and "travel" have nothing to do with "quality".

so what you are saying is that there is only one size or travel length for the front?

I believe it was Jberry in his summary that is linked in the first page. and I believe it was meant to be as we at TW define it In order to weed out the Rifraf who would consider a broomstick as an extended travel shock absorber???
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There are 2 CO's available for the front that you can order - reg travel and ext travel, he ext's just give you an inch more droop.

Few drain holes. I just be sure to rinse it out well whenever I wash the truck.
