You can drive on the beaches on the east coast. Daytona, Ormand, places like that. Sounds like your gf is set on the west coast but the east coast of Florida is really cool too.

I may make a day of the east coast, just to go. I haven't been since I was real young.

I'll tell ya mho on beaches.... Florida has the best beaches I have ever seen. Been to Huntington, San Diego, New Jersey, Myrtle Beach, amelia Island, St. Simons, Jacksonville, Palm coast, St. Augustine, Hilton Head Etc... None of them can beat Fla. anyway here are my best beaches from the ones I have been to in order.
    1) Bahia Honda State Park (Keys)...Bar none the best beach ever..Water was crystal clear beach was surreal. However, you can only go there certain times of the year to enjoy the water. Also, there is nothing really cool around there. It's a State park..But my sweet baby jesus the beach and the water are beyond words.
2)Ft. Walton beach (Panhandle) JUST AWESOME!!! this will include the destin area as well. But dude the panhandle is just magical as far as the beaches go. Plus, you have cool bars, family friendly etc. Just don't have enough good things to say about ft. walton. Just a great lazy Florida chill zone.
    3) Sanibel/ Captiva..Dude very laid back area very chill good bars/ food etc. Other than the keys, best sunsets in the world!! Beach is amazing. Soft sand tons of shells.
    4) New Smyrna beach. Very cool laid back area. some great bars, you can drive on the beach very nice area. kinda a tie with Huntington beach in Cali. That was a really cool beach too but of course you can't drive on it. but very fun beach
    5) St. Augustine/ Palm Coast beaches. You can camp there!! very cool beach, great restaurants lotsa bars etc. Plus my sister lives on the beach out there and we get together with our boats on the sand bars. After this I would have to say the anna maria area then clearwater and Stuart Fl. (Stuart has great fishing)
Keep in mind this is my opinion and only the beaches I have been too. I know most of this is pretty much not what your looking for but just thought i would throw in my 2 cents. Plus if ya make a trip over to the East coast IE Daytona, Ormond area I might cruise over there. I love driving/partying on the beach. Once you drive on the beach you will go back I swear it's really cool.

I'll write these down and show her your pictures from the next couple posts. that Bahia Honda is beautiful! that may be a good stop for us to go! we're really just looking for 4-7 days of relaxation. as long as we're beachfront, I'm sure she's gonna be happy! thanks a bunch!

I live in New Smyrna Beach, they have restricted beach driving to the northern section to the jetty. It's not the best place to fool around, u could get your truck impounded. I usually go west towards Ocala, if you're interested in joining this weekend, I'm new and still exploring local options.

I live about 20 mins north of destin and go there often. I launch my kayak from the crab trap down there into the gulf.

Destin is nice because it's touristy...however not always as mobbed as let's say Tampa or the keys. Pricing is really fair and there's a lot to do. Check out flipkey.com you can find beachfront rental condos in destin or sandestin that you can rent anything from luxury penthouse condos to single family cottage style.

Wife and I used flip key for a week down in Orlando paid about 500 to rent an entire house not to shabby.

Planning a trip down to the keys when I get back from this deployment sometime around July. Me and couple buddies of mine are looking to take our kayaks down there and do some serious fishing. Can't wait. Heard islmorada is where it's at

I've been to Florida a handful of times. furthest I've been is Tampa/Clearwater section. it looks like we may be going to a place called Indian rock beach. any input on this beach?
