Anyone else 6 foot 2" and greater and taller noticing the shorter head clearance in the new 2016 model. I really notice if I'm wearing ball cap, but even without, my head rubs if I sit with posture and seat forward. I have to lay back the seat to not feel the liner on my head when I move around but then my neck is bent forward. I have the sunroof, not sure if that makes a difference, my 2005 didn't have sunroof and had no problems.

Any suggestions on modifying the height? Tacoma Limited seats have power motor for height?

The ceiling is lower on the sunroof equipped models because the sunroof occupies a few inches of space in the ceiling to slide about.

I am in your boat, haven't bought yet, but I am 6'-2" more torso and when I have taken a few test drives. Clearance is very tight when I was wearing a hat, would rub when I turned to look back, and I would have to lean the seat back a bit more than usual to feel OK. Still on the fence about Premium and tech package because of it, but I want some of the other goodies. Do you think it is liveable?

I had my truck in for service last week and they had one in the showroom with the sunroof. I am 6'2" as well and my head was touching the headliner around the sunroof. I wonder how much testing they do before they offer these options? I was kind of disappointed because it ruled out the sunroof option if I decide to get another Tacoma.

Liveable? - I would get one without a sun roof if I did it over. I love the truck. This is the only thing so far that bothered me, but can be avoid getting without sunroof. Sounds like it's confirmed by others sunroof make it hang down a bit. I didn't notice this the first couple weeks. Stay tuned, I going to look at the seat and ceiling liner closer. Doesn't sound like a power seat is available either. I'm still super happy and glad I have sun roof, I'm going figure out a way. Literally a half inch would make a big difference.

    Stay Tuned..

I'm 6'4" and could not fit with the moonroof. I really wanted the premium/tech package so I went with the access cab instead of DC. No moonroof but still get the premium/tech./

For you guys that are having a "low ceiling" issue....Go sit in the back seat...!! That sunroof chopped the clearance back there by 3"....

If I (5'-10") sit back there...I cannot move my head forward to talk to someone in the front seat.... Very low in the back..!!:mad:

I've been meaning to do this as well. Though I will rarely sit back there, and with me in the front seat, tall passengers are gonna be screwed back there for legroom anyways...makes me rethink getting a double cab....could just get the access and get the P&T package without the moonroof reduced ceiling height. damn moonroof. I may just forgo the premium and tech.

Here's some pictures for discussion. Right where my fingers are, my head rest is down by my wrist. The aluminum is the bottom of anything mechanical. The groove you see is just the panel cover that slides in the lower groove of the aluminum. Below that as you can see is about 1 1/2 inches of void space???. Appears to be some block foam and a structural tab to hold the liner in place with velcro. :)

Below this pictured you will see the back seat flange, this appears to be more difficult to manipulate and could void and endanger safety. So I'm leaning towards doing shaped impressions to the headliner that only needs to push in about 2-3 inches horizontally from the opening to the door and it will give me plenty of clearance. The top middle of my head touches the very first part of the opening. So the part that is annoying is you feel like your correcting your sitting by leaning in towards the sunroof opening.

Not sure why there is such a large void, nothing mechanical moves below the aluminum. Are the head liners difficult to remove? thinking of removing headliner, damping the head liner in the small area and shaping an indentation that looks like from the factory and then letting dry so it holds. Your thought?

Like the rest of you, I am having head room clearance issues as well. I just visited our local upholstery shop and they figure they could shave an inch off the bottom seat cushion for me. Has anybody ever tried this? Their plan is to remove one inch of foam and place a layer of vinyl in between the springs and the foam to ensure they do not cut through the now thinner foam and affect the driver.

Sounds like the designers at Toyota just kept the standard amount of foam and clearance as used for the standard roof. No consideration for us tallies. I like the idea of trying to create more space there rather than lowering the seat. Removing foam from the seat seems like it could come at the cost of comfort. Let us know how you come along trying to create more headroom up top. Ideally you could remove some foam, fashion a new hanger and move the entire ceiling up 2". Not sure how feasible that is since I don't own the truck! Keep us posted.

I noticed the lack of headroom right away as I sat in a new 2016 as I was picking up some parts for my 2014 at the dealer.

I'm 6'1" and I would love a moonroof if I got a new Tacoma but the lack of headroom is a deal breaker for me.

It would work, but then the wife will wonder why so low in the seat. I don't think sitting lower I would like either. It's already large hood to look over, hate to loose more visibility when 4 wheelin. So could work if your the primary driver. I'm going forward with headliner modification. I will do some measurements before/after.

I'm 6'2" as well, but the year end deal on the 2015's was too tempting for me, so hopefully Toyota solves this issue before I get my next one. I didn't get a sunroof, because I had to buy off the lot to get the cash back savings, but the premium package was important to me. Also, it's not just total height but how each person distributes it. If your 6"2" is because you have long legs, you might be ok. Still. it seems like a mistake, for a truck aimed at the North American market. There are a lot of big guys living here!

Inch is a big difference. You get sunroof? If so, don't take delivery until you sit in it and happy. I'm 6'2" and it rub just barely on top of my head. I'm convince this mod I'm doing is easy and no one will even notice. Might bring it up to my deal er first and see what they say. Maybe they already have modded for customers.

I'm nearly 6'2" and have short legs. I don't really have an issue. You can pretty easily accommodate the lack of headroom by reclining slightly and slouching a little. I have had many more clearance issues with other vehicles than this one. Is it something to complain about? Sure. Is it really simple to solve without modification unless your really big ( 6'3" +)?? DEFINITELY. I have had some really large people in here and they have been able to fit without too much fussing. Most my family are large. One uncle is 6'5". He wasn't uncomfortable but he had the seat all the way back. I haven't tried cramming in my 6'9" uncle in here yet, that should be interesting.

I had a sunroof in my previous car. Used it maybe 5 times over 7 years before I traded the car in for a Taco. I'm glad my truck doesn't have one - extra weight, complexity, and risk of leaks...

Yes, KenLyns, I agree. I've had sunroofs in lots of vehicles and thought I'd miss it when I chose a Tacoma without one, off the lot. The other options were exactly what I wanted. I haven't missed the sunroof even once, and it has lots of head room. Even with the hat on that I'm wearing in my profile photo it has lots of room. Its too bad, though, if the options on 2016 limit you to having a sunroof too.

Fortunately, Toyota can "adjust" option packages each year. Use those initial quality surveys to point this out and maybe Toyota will be convinced to "unbundle" the sunroof from the Premium and tech packages!
