Did a 3rd gen forum search, and I didn't find any threads on this. I want a 2nd isolated battery installed on my Taco. I will be heading from Texas to North of Fort McMurray Alberta Canada this Summer. Will be in the bush, fishing, off roading etc. I will be in the middle of NO WHERE. I may sometimes use the truck with an inverter for electricity; and I don't want to take a chance on a damaged battery from problems with the inverter or from impacts from off roading.

On most of my previous vehicles, I have installed a 2nd battery, but this is my New Taco, and I can't decide where to put it. I have some room just behind the air cleaner on the passenger side, but it is VERY small. There is a bracket there NOT being used; it must be for something else NOT used on the TRD OR model. I am sure I can fabricate a bracket and a battery holder with a tie down, but I was just wondering if anyone has completed this yet or know of any VENDOR offered options. Also perhaps a suggestion for an isolator block and/or a wiring schematic or pictorial?

I have a 2014, but used that same location for my second battery. I fabricated a battery mount that mounted on those three exposed bolt threads.

Awesome, Thx for sharing. Did you fabricate the base and mounts all yourself? or did you purchase a couple of items? You wouldn't happen to remember if you had a parts list or just some info or links to get "US" started on this thread into creating a base model for the Tacoma 2016. Also, do you remember what system you used to isolate your battery setup? Thanks

I used the National Luna solenoid and controller, but made everything else with a friend. My friend is the master fabricator and I have good ideas occasionally. The battery mount has a base made of about 1/4" steel plate that we cut and drilled according to the factory bolt locations and fitting parameters. The rear (closest to firewall) bolt was lower, so we cut a spacer from 1" conduit. Then we welded a washer to the bottom of the spacer and the spacer to the plate. This allowed us to just bolt it down to all 3 factory studs with some nylon locking nuts and have a level, secure base. You can see that in the top left picture.

From there we welded some a nut to smaller conduit on either side to create the "latch" system.

The wire I used is 2 gauge with some ring terminals from NAPA, crimped using a vice.

I'll try to get a more specific materials list, but work and am a full time ME student, so time is hard to come by. Hope this helps a bit.

That's what I put there. I haven't taken a real close look yet, but I was kind of hoping to get two batteries together in the OEM location. Side by side and rotated 90°.

Awesome, thanks for the reply, Appreciate the help.
I can fabricate things as well; was hoping to build a template etc and then maybe share what I built with everyone.
I have gotten a TON of good info from Tacoma World, and I definitely want to contribute back.
Thanks again for your help; list, and pictures.

No problem. I edited my above post to say that everything except battery placement isn't gen specific. Lots and lots of good info there with ideas, materials, reviews, install questions, etc.
