From my research and verified with a Toyota dealer.

    • The 2nd Gen OEM Bed extender is the same part number for the '16 model.
    • They are made by AMP.
    • There are 2 OEM bed extenders, Toyota changed the shape of the extender sometime in '14 because the U version was blocking the tail lights in certain angles. That is why the 'newer' version is more of a D shape.
If you look at the extender, it is adjustable for width. The mounts are drilled into your bed.

Again, if you go to your local dealer and ask for the PN# for a bed extender for the 2016 Tacoma, and ask for a bed extender for a 2015 Tacoma, they are the EXACT PN#.

Could someone elaborate on the installation of these? I am interested but obviously the last thing I want to do is mess up my brand new truck.

Another option.....Lund hitch-rack extender. Very adjustable, 750 lb rating. $120 on Amazon a few months back.

Works great too. I hauled 25 12' decking boards with it back in the fall and some 12' gutters a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't have done that in my short bed without it. It adjusts fore and aft and up and down. And if your carrying something that's wider than the "arms", you can just flip those upside down. It includes an "SUV' attachment that allows it to extend upward to use along with a roof rack. Very heavily built and solid.

    When not in use.

A wife and 2 daughters.....not a lot of "man space" in my house. The garage is my sanctuary.....where I get away, watch TV, have a beer, work on stuff. So I try to keep it clean and organized.

If you are looking to get an extender to use with motos, please note that the p/n I provided below is not the same as the extender that is Toyota branded. As already mentioned, the model for the 2005 - 2015 will work. The AMP Research extender p/n 74809 - 01A extends beyond the lip of the gate and has been shaped to accommodate a moto.

I should have added that installation is pretty straightforward, however, you do have to drill 6 holes into your bed. A template is provided.

I'd estimate the whole job of putting the extender together and installing at about 30 - 45 minutes.

Ditto Drill three holes on the side of you bed walls attach the hardware. Assemble the Actual Bed extender and attach. It slips into a groove so it is easily removable without tools. Love mine (especially with two tanks of LP Barbecue gas in the back.)

You also have the Truxedo Low Pro Qt tonneau cover with the bed extender so there's no side clearance issues with Truxedo rails? I have both being delivered today and they weren't sure when I called Truxedo if the bed extender would clear the side rails. They did say if there were any issues they'd pay for the return shipping. Tuxedo has great customer service along with AuotAnything where I purchased the tonneau cover.

No clearance issues at all. Fits perfectly. The bed is deeper than my 2015 was.Makes a lot of difference. I moved up from the Truxedo to the Lo Pro and never looked back.

Yeah I have been going back and forth with CoverKing on my head rest covers. They didn't fit. Finally through Google Trusted Stores I got them to send me the correct ones......Waiting.'

I ordered through AutoAnything but all they do is drop ship parts. They don't carry inventory for a lot of things. The wanted to RMA. I did not want the RMA but wanted the correct parts instead. So I went straight to CoverKing,

Yes, the AMP unit is aluminum. Here's a pic of the one designed for motos.
