I am looking into doing a 4x4 swap on my 2006 tacoma sport I have a six inch lift I wasn't much into off-roading when I bought it but now it's an addiction I can't cure and 2wd with large tires and a lift does great I'm still limited in a lot of aspects I am just wondering what would be a better route in terms of time price and durability. Not sure if I should purchase a wrecked 4x4 and swap parts over or buy tranny and transfer case used and get the rest new and sell the parts I removed. Those of you who have done what's the parts I would need and best way to do if u were to do it myself thank you

Do you have another reliable vehicle to drive while converting your 2wd to a 4wd? Do you have a garage you can do it in?

I'd just buy a 4wd and sell the 2wd personally.

This. I think it is a pretty big project and is not just mechanical but electrical components and probably require reflashing computer.

If you are confident in your skills go for it but I would sell/trade the 2 wd for a 4wd. That is what I did and happy with my decision and my TRD Off Road 4X4.
