    Hi:

Today I test drove and FJ Cruiser, but a couple things I didn't feel comfortable about it when comparing with my Taco

    1) my 2005 prerunner feels much more responsive in acceleration.

    2) FJ is Noisy inside, you can listen exhaust/engine in cabin

3)I felt kind of unstable taking turns.!

What advice can you give before going into FJ?,

Keep your taco and get a fj if that's what u want. I would never get rid of my taco everyone needs a truck. That's Just my 2 cents

Worst thing I thought about the FJ was the fact that my 2009 RAV4 had more interior room! Also, the rear visibility from an FJ SUX! Huge blind spots. Get a 4Runner if you need an SUV.

I just traded my FJ for a Taco. The FJ was a ton of fun but it was extremely noisy, sucked gas, and visibility was poor. Having a truck is more versatile. You can toss bikes and large objects in the back without worry or hassle. Both have excellent mod options and resale value, and their own perks.

???? to the above. My 2014 FJ is quieter then my 2015 DCSB TRD Taco, has almost 40 more HP. Doesn't have the frame rigidity of a noodle. Has a much more advanced suspension that is also quieter. Mileage is about the same. Actually has 4 wheel DISC!!!!!!!! brakes. Mine feels far more planted on the road then my Taco does.

If you roll the windows down, they do have more wind noise.

Has plenty of room inside, the downside is the rear can be claustrophobic to ride in.

ummmm, I'd take my FJ over my Tacoma 6 out of 7 days (always nice to have a pick up for hauling 1 day a week). Having a shorter wheelbase also makes it great for hitting the trails. The Taco went away, but the FJ will stay. But that's my opinion after owning a taco for 12 years!

My 2014 FJ gets 22 mpg and my 2015 DCLB gets 19 mpg. The FJ is a tank and at the end of the day, I don't really need both. I just can't part with the FJ. The FJ is made in Japan, not rusting out, absolute best bad weather vehicle I have ever owned, and, is just plain fun to drive. I can't get out of my head how it made it through a horrible blizzard last year and was amazing. I was the idiot flying up the passing lane during a blinding snowstorm having a blast on the interstate.

I will say, the Taco has a smoother drive-line and you don't notice the transmission shifting into over drive lugging the engine at low speed like the FJ does. Both vehicles are amazing though!

I had a taco sold it to get into a newer one but then the 2014 ultimate edition came out and I ended up buying it. just as previously mentioned had a stronger chasis, mase in japan, crawl control (just now does the taco have it) and the best feature a 21st century car should have is rear DISK brakes something the taco still does not have .

Have both and apples and oranges. FJ has terrible visibility and window configuration absolutely stinks. If the 4runner (and Tundra crewmax) can have rear windows that go down, why not the FJ?

FJ is built better and as mentioned previously, a tank. Once I swapped the miserable factory tires the ride improved 100%.

Third Tacoma, so 'nuff said..., glad I have them both, and hard to compare because they are completely different trucks.

Of note, the FJ is a 2010, and still has tremendous value, so will be keeping for a long time..

Good luck, you will be good with either.

I have had both, an 08 taco and now a 13 fj. Both are great vehicles. The FJs have better angles for clearance but it's nice having a bed to throw things in. I use mine getting back to elk hunt on old jeep trails etc. never had a problem getting where I needed to go. It's all personal preference.

Mea Culpa. Now that I HAVE an FJ, I take back what I said before.

I had a 08 trail team FJ that was heavily modified. I wheeled it just about every weekend and never had any problems.
But it a little small for a SUV.

The FJ is known for it off road ability.

I just bought a 07 taco and love it so far IMO the taco is better suited to be a overland rig due to it have more room to carry gear and supplies for longer excursions.

The FJ was tuned to use premium gas, which will really hit you in the wallet sometimes.

The big thing is that you are talking two different classes of vehicle. Think about your ordinary, daily, 90% usage for the vehicle. Do you need a bed, do you see yourself hauling bulky, aromatic, or muddy items? Are you hauling multiple passengers on the regular? (Can they tolerate squeezing through a half-door to crawl into the back seat?) Are you commuting it daily and how heavy is the traffic pattern that you commute in? (FJ sucks in heavy traffic, the 4R isnt as bad.) Your daily interaction with the vehicle tends to determine which one is better for you.

Edit: dammit, I just went back and read the timestamps. Old thread, so nevermind.

2010 and up Dual VVT-i engines can run on 87 octane.
I've been running 87 in my '14 since new with no trouble.

My 09' F J using Premium gets about 4 mpg better then my 06 tacoma, so in the long run the fuel costs are about the same....

Update. Fj was totaled after being rear ended by a semi truck. Seriously...the fj saved my butt. Its a tough tough vehicle.
I just signed for a 2020 trd pro army green. Ill get it next week. Fully loaded and then some that I added. Paid msrp. Friend got it for me since its the 5th toyota Ive bought fr him.

Once I settle...ill have some very cool fj parts if peeps need.

Im looking at the bright side. Minor injuries and a few things transfer over like the budbuilt diff skid plate, all my rigids, and dual battery components. And although I lost my fj...I love me a new taco!
