LLC question?

My wife did this for my company and it was a couple hundred $$

 

Who did you have as an agent, yourself, attorney? This is where I'm hung up. Starting to feel this company were consulting with is BS.

 

We sat down with my acct and reviewed the pros/cons of each and then we did the paperwork ourselves and submitted it. Very easy

If you live in the same state that your LLC or S-Corp is organized (business documents are filed with) in, you do not need a registered agent as you can be your own. A registered agent only comes into play if your business is organized in, for example, Nevada, and you live in Maine. The "agent" must reside in the state where the businesses papers are filed in order to accept "legal mail".

 

I don't think that the company you consulted with is BS per se, but rather is normally consulted to multimillion dollar businesses with multiple people or entities owning it. Which may explain the $22k retainer and all expenses billed to you stipulation.

I think the Chicago company is just overkill (if one can say such a thing when it comes to business and protecting yourself).

 

I only say they are BS because they are telling me how great everything's going to be once I convert, I'm going to save by claiming deductions I haven't been , when really I could do all this myself, apparently, and keep the retainer. The more I read and learn the more I realize how simple this really is. I didn't know much about an LLC a week ago, thanks to those on TW, I now know enough to make an informed decision. thank your for your knowledge as well.
