All good tires. go with your gut.

    My mpg is about 16.

Have you googled the reviews on the tires? Especially the STmaxx? tough as nails literally. I found I video of them running tires over 3" spike and the ST Maxx held up for like 30 rolls!! Google the Duratrak..a lot of talk about sidewall blow out.

Again just my .02 hope it helps to make your decision.

Thanks everyone for the input and discussion. I ended up ordering the Toyo Open Country AT/II LT265/75/16/e through Tread Depot. Thanks PoweredbySoy for the suggestion. Once I get them mounted on my FN Wheel Konig Countersteers and on the truck I'll post some photos.

I voted ST Maxx. I've loved both sets I've had. 265/75/16 and 285/75/16. Next set will probably be 255/85/16. lol They are quiet/smooth on the highway and perform great off road, plus they are tough as nails. Heavy though

Have you looked at these Goodyear MT/R's at all? I just discovered them myself, and I noticed that their 255/75R17 is really tall at 32.3". So despite its official sizing, it's only 1/2" smaller than the Coopers. Plus it's C rated, 6 lbs lighter, and still highly regarded as a great do-everything, pseudo-mud tire.

I'm considering them. They look killer, imo.

They look killer because they are MT. Yes, I know they have half of an AT tread but the guys around here that run them do complain about the noise. If he wanted a quiet MT then they would be a good choice, but compared to the Coopers or especially compared to the Toyo's the MT/R will be loud.

A few guys I know run MTR's most of them like them though most of them end up with a true MT on there next buy. Not knocking them but they aren't for everyone or a miracle do anything tire.

What about KO2's? I am looking to upgrade in a month. my 3 choices are the Open country AT2's, ST MAXX, and KO2's.

KO2's are much less aggressive than the Coopers and close to the Toyo's. The KO2 is a good tire but it has similar issues to the Toyo. It looks good but in the soft stuff it just doesn't clean out wheel due to the small gaps in the tread and lack of significant sidewall lugs. If you do mostly highway the KO2's will serve you very well if you are looking for a tire that will occasionally see soggy conditions offroad.

My only gripe with the KO2's is that it doesn't seem to last very long on trucks that see gravel conditions. I just heard back from a buddy who was running them on his truck and they are starting to chip up again at 20K. He'll probably replace them this year. They are soft and not very durable IMHO but that's what you can expect from most AT's other than the Cooper ST Maxx. Keep in mind all that extra weight on the Cooper though.

That weight comes from all the rubber and reinforcement that is in the tire. There's youtube videos of guys aired down to 15 PSI driving back and forth over nails 10-20 times before the tire punctures. That's insane durability.

If you want the best AT for durability you can't beat the ST Maxx. It makes Duratracs look hilariously bad in rough spots.

Well, to be fair to Goodyear, they don't market the MT/R as a mud tire. It's like "maximum traction" or something like that. It may be a bit of a bait-and-switch, but whatever... They were designed to be a do-everything tire, but of course that means they're not great at any one thing. But that sounds like a pretty good compromise for a weekend warrior like me. The most consistent complaint I've read about them is that they wear too quickly. I've also read complains about snowpack and slush performance - which is a big one for me.
