If a limited short box automatic was available in Canada I'd probably buy that if I was looking. Throw in a rear air locker once they are available and you'd have exactly the truck I want. In all honesty I'll probably go with a different truck other than the tacoma next time around unless a dcsb automatic OR is available. GM offers the rear locker in their truck with that sort of package and I have no doubt Ford will too. It's extremely silly that Toyota doesn't think the most popular OR configuration won't sell into a market where a significant population of their trucks are used OR.

I agree that the TRD Offroad Double cab should be offered here. Or at least offer the locker as a stand alone option or include it on the TRD Sport.

Yeah. Tell me about it. I want an AC TRD OR w/MT but, alas, we don't get nice things either in the States.

I would suggest the market for manual transmission OR's is smaller than the market for DCSB automatics... but I digress. Hey, at least if you wanted a manual AC TRD OR you could buy one in Canada under a buddy and import it for pennies on the dollar if you wanted. Even easier, just wait for a few to get traded in by people who get a new shiny one each year and pay even less with less hassle.

I have also heard rumors that the Double cab TRD Offroad will also be available for 2017 models

I have a sport but I also think the offroad will sell well here.
I love my truck but can't figure out why they still haven't included a seat height adjustment.
My transmission doesn't shift down 2 gears and stay there anymore while using cruise control anymore. Kinda happy about that.

I will believe it when I see it. Toyota Canada just does not seem to want to give us any options.

Hi. New question: is an OEM remote starter available for the '16 Taco? I can't find it in the website accessory list. The new, and way too expensive, START+ system is available for the 4Runner.

No. Toyota doesn't equip any level of the tacoma with factory remote start nor is it an OEM option.

Canyon Creek Toyota is offering a no charge remote start on the Tacoma right now, not sure which remote start they are installing though.

I find that an aftermarket remote starter can be just as much of a headache as a good option over time. On my parents old Yukon it was a constant issue. It was randomly draining the battery for some strange reason that the dealer, who installed it, could never figure out. If you are going to put one in make sure it is a good one and try to find a shop with a technician who has done a few in your specific make/model of truck.

Thanks everyone. Odd that they don't offer one for the Tacoma.

What is a good brand/model remote starter? I'd like to get one for my 6M truck, it would be nice in these Ottawa winters. (Yes, remote starters are available for manual trans vehicles, I had one in my '98 Integra GS-R. In order for it to work, you had to "arm" it when you left the car: engine running, in neutral, parking brake on, press button on remote, remove key from ignition, engine stays running, exit vehicle, close door, lock doors with remote, engine shuts off.) Sounds complex but it becomes second nature and worked very well. The process guaranteed that the remote start would only function if the car was left in neutral with the parking brake on.

I would say you get what you pay for in general. If I was going to buy one I'd go with one of the new ones that can be used through your smart phone. A lot of those allow you to know if your manual is ready to start before you even try to start it.

I had a manual car and it was the same procedure as you describe. When you wake up for work and it's -30C you'll do just about anything the night before to arm the remote start.

My current truck has the dball2, I like it a lot, uses factory fob (lock x3 to start) and comes with t harness and module all for around $150

Does that alarm have any form of 2 way communication? The thing I hate most about the two button or 3x lock starters is that they rarely have that option. Since they use the OEM transmitter the range is shitty at best, compared to a dedicated two way starter or a smart phone based starter, and there is rarely a way to tell if your truck is running outside unless you park in line of sight.

Here's my '16! Picked her up on Saturday and have almost 200km on her so far. I can't believe how quiet and comfortable this thing is on the highway - night and day difference compared to the old 2nd gen.

SO far have swapped over the tonneau and bed extender. I also greased my u-joints and torqued my u-bolts today. Still need to order a trailer brake harness, Morimoto HIDs/LED fogs, and a set of FN BFD wheels & proper tires.
