With stock tires the speedometer reads a little high, not a little low. Speedometer says 70 actual speed is 67-68.

Not in anticipation that you will put bigger tires on, in anticipation that you will get speeding tickets if the speedometer is reading low.

Still a good idea for everyone to double-check them. Some drivetrain combos are off by a lot. With factory 245-75/R16 size tires, my odometer would read 4 miles too many per 100 miles, and to go 70 mph, the needle would have to sit on 77 mph. I swapped the oem 29-tooth speedometer gear for a 30-tooth, which got the odometer within 1% where it belonged; however it still needs the needle about 74 mph to go 70 mph actual. I care about the odometer more so I can live with it.

The irony? The thing I hated the most about my first Honda was how far off its speedo was. I figured a Toyota wouldn't have that problem since the other Toyotas in the family (including my last Tacoma) are within 1-2 mph. HA! This truck was even less accurate. I'll always bring a GPS for my test drives from now on.

    to much to post lol
96 4x4 ext cab with the 2.7, ive been getting horrible gas mileage as well haven't calculated it yet but on average i used to get around 330ish to a tank, now im getting alittle more than 200ish, truck has 256,000 miles on er but runs strong, compression isnt bad for the mileage bout 124-126 on each cylinder, maybe its the winter gas up here, mostly drive highway 60 miles to and from work everyday avg 65-75 mph try to stay around 2200rpm cruising in 5th until i hit steeper inclines gotta drop it to 4th (dreaded 3.58 gears), truck has some mods done to it, lifted rear bout an inch, 31/10.5/15 firestone detination at's, aem short ram air intake, trail-gear longtube header, custom 2 1/4 exhaust, i know i need to regear idk if that has anything to do with it ive had theses mods on the truck for years and im just recently noticing the changes this year

This may be a dumb question but I am always wondering if I convert my L/100km correctly to get mpg.

Do you guys work with U.S Gal, wich is 3.78L (seems obvious), with U.S Dry Gal wich is 4.4L or with Imp. Gal, wich is 4.54L?

Asking this because when I compare my consumption, I am getting closer to some of you when using Imp mesurement.

I know the 2.7 is not that much fuel efficient but when I read that some 4.0 get 22.5 mpg, wich is the best I get off my 2.7 in near perfect driving conditions, I worry about my converting method.

    Thanks in advance!

Just thought I'd chime in... I don't really get involved in mpg related threads well cause I don't really care but I feel this information can be useful so here goes.

09 2.7 5spd AC, plate bumper front and rear, full set of skids, 4 16x8 steelies, 4 315/75R16 bfg ko2 e, 4.88 gears, tool box full of tools bed bars close to 50/50 city hwy

I've gone through 3/4 of a tank I've traveled 249 miles. Much better than anticipated the gears are making a huge difference imo

Didn't you said Mpg was stupid?...:boink:
    Jk
I am following your build thread a bit and I was wondering if you were cheking you mpg before regear and adding your new bigger tire? Was your Miles per tank stable enough to make an average?

Lol well they are but it's still a factor when trip planning, before the tires ad regear I was around 20-21ish after tires it dropped to like 16 lol I'm still collecting data to come up with a concrete avg after the regear so far I'm happy with the results though. I'm expecting it to be similar to other 2.7's on 35's North is my favorite example pre super charger

03' stock suspension,1 size bigger than stock tires. Average 18-20 in town. 20-24 on highway. Best ive ever seen I estimated 30 mpg driving down to the outer banks going easy, averaging 55-65 mph.

All "winter" on the gulf coast I got 21-21.5 mpg. Before the last fill-up I filled the tires to the recommended level (listed inside driver door jamb). I was low front and back by 4-6 psi. Today I filled up and calculated gas mileage: 22 mpg :)

Note: I quoted myself from last summer.

What year is your truck? Is it an access cab or a regular cab?
