    Hey Everyone,

So I got a 2015 TRD Sport DCLB and was wondering if there is a way to convert the Sport into a Off Road. Basically what I want is a RR Diff Lock. Toyota does not offer that option on a Sport Long Bed. Has anyone looked into this?

I've read threads where some people wanted to install a back up camera and all they did was buy a camera. All the wiring was there. Just plug and go. I am guessing Toyota has all Tacomas pre-wired and only adds the options that you can afford.

Mechanically the main differences are the entire diff (sport is a larger diff) and a bit of computer stuff. Add a locker to the sport and it will do about as well as a stock TRD OR in most situations. Easier to make an OR be an OR that looks like a Sport than it would be to make a complete OR from a Sport.

Add ARB rear locker and you're just about there. Add front and rear lockers and you're more capable than the OR but still drop dead sexy with the skewp and matched parts

ADD A REAR LOCKER, That is "The Kit."

Sorry, thanks for clarifying. How do you activate it? Or is it anyways active once installed?

Usually with air. You'd have an onboard compressor that you would turn on then activate the diff lock when you need it.

You could also swap in a TRD OR rear axle, switch, and associated wiring but I'm not sure if this has been done. It would probably be more complicated and cost more than just adding a tougher ARB locker to your axle.

You could also do something like an Eaton TruTrac. It would be cheaper, requires no driver input, and though not quite as good as a selectable locker, it will still be better than what you have (brake simulated LSD) or the typical mechanical LSD.

True. Most probably aren't getting a DCLB into situations where the locker is a necessity. I know I'm not. Enabling Auto LSD works well enough for me.

But then, I have a 4x4 so I have that option available to me as well. Not sure if the OP's is or not.

i could twist up a DCLB real easy where even in 4x4 it wouldnt look pretty getting through...... 2wd and a locker would walk right through it.

That stated.... OP do you feel as though you need a locker. Outside of the rear locker, like stated you get ATRAC on the 09+ TRD OR's which when used right is damn impressive.

    nice thread dig.

What i mean there was you could get a 4x4 truck with open diffs like all the stock DCLB's have "twisted up" or flexed out to where you had a tire in the air and another one very lightly on the ground and it wouldnt want to go forward.

Same truck with just a rear locker and in 2wd could get through the same obstacle without much issue.
