In case you were wondering how much it would cost to replace one of the rear fender flares on OR (not painted) and to replace a rear bumper cover painted (comes unpainted from Toyota) by a bodyshop, the answer is $1,200. No damage to sheetmetal.

A dude in a Pathfinder decided to merge onto my lane (I had the right of way, his lane was ending), side swiped into my flare, he slowed down, sped up and hit the bumper corner last night. He was an a&&, telling me that he has places to be, no apologies. Tried to convince me we were both at fault. Cop wouldn't write it up as their policy says it has to be over $1k. The dude wanted to pay out of his pocket and seems to be coming through as the bodyshop called to say a payment was made.

Only 1300 miles, first accident (although minor) since I started driving 27 years ago.

The last 2 are of the guy's Pathfinder.

It really was a very minor damage, surprised it added up to $1,200

    Cops are insurance adjusters now?
Merging is the duty of the merger.

Cops will say/do whatever is needed (usually) to not assign fault in an accident. They would much rather not have to go to court or deal with an insurance battle.
