I own a Tacoma (obviously) but have a company car which is kinda domestic 2015 Chevy Malibu, granted I mostly drive it on the highway where it rides very comfortable, I had no issue with it in the last 35k miles. I will get a new car once it hits 75k so I can't say anything about longevity. So far the only thing it gets is oil changes and tire rotations...if it doesn't fail me in those 75k miles I will consider a new Malibu, if not I'll get a Camry

That's one thing I don't like about toyota, there so conservative and blan. There's nothing special or new about hardly any of there vehicles. They just got the reliability part down and that's why people but them.

Always bought american. Would never give imports a look. Always had chevys fords and gms. Dodge intrepid i had was garbage. Gave imports a try with my frontier and now tacoma and gotta say they are much better quality. That ssid i would give a ford 150 a shot down the road but would look at tacoma and frontier first

Regarding the warranty: it's infinite miles, not infinite years. Big difference.

My Toyota was made in Texas. My old Nissan in Tennessee. My Lincoln (last car before the Tacoma) was made in Michigan. All stellar vehicles. The Nissan was a unkillable beast and the Lincoln was the most fun.

Would not buy a Chrysler product because I've never known one to not have problems, plus my mechanic says not to - otherwise anything is fair game if I like it.

Next vehicle may well not be a truck.

I have an 09 accord v6 at the dealer right now getting a new short block due to a class action lawsuit because Honda would not admit that their engines had design flaws.
My wife has an 11 Mercury Milan that has been a nightmare from the beginning. It's getting dumped as soon as the extended warranty runs out.
Our 11 Avalon has been awesome except that it goes through headlights like crazy. 1 a year it seems.
My 10 ram has been perfect so far. It only has 42k on it though due to shitty gas mileage. Most of those miles have been logged pulling a trailer though.

My neighbor had an issue with his Accord V6, it had an oil burning problem, it ran dry and shot a rod out of the oil pan. Thankfully he kept all of his maintenance records and Honda installed a new engine.

Mine was going through a quart every 1 k miles. Took it in for a misfire due to plugs fouling. They started on the warranty work and the tech noticed the cylinder walls were trashed.

I don't buy into the notion that domestic vehicles explode when driven or Japanese vehicles are bulletproof. I've owned toyotas (Camry, taco) a BMW M3, a Pontiac Grande Am, a Buick Enclave, an Acura MDX, a Mazda truck, an Isuzu Trooper, a Volkswagen Jetta, and a Ford Tempo. Never had serious problems with any of them but then again, I'm easy on vehicles and take good care of them.

I waited a day to reply, and I share your sentiment, so hear me out. But...

In a free society, those assets--the land, factory, equipment, and talented workers--would not be lost without a bailout, they would be better utilized by more talented new companies. They would be put to better use by a new a profitable company who did not rely on the force of the government to steal from taxpayers to pay for the bailouts. We live in a crony-capitalist society where the auto makers are protected from failing by government with bailouts, regulations and barriers to entry. The big three may have used to "fuel the economy", but today they are (along with many other corporations, and especially banks) parasites on the productivity of Americans. Check the facts. While the average American's wages have remained level, the cost of living has risen, and the dollar has declined in purchasing power, those who are connected with the government continue to see their wealth rise.

The libertarian framework, which is what it sounds like you may be implying by "free society," only works when not confronted by that very crony-capitalist society we find ourselves surrounded in today. Big corporations just run amuck given free and unregulated frameworks to operate in, as we've seen in the last decade (and at many other points in history). At this point I honestly don't know how we take the government back from the corporations, but I think a good place to start is a clean sweep of all the corporate shills in government and strong regulations that reform campaign contributions and regulate finance/banking institutions. I think it's time we again start making the government work for the people and not just those pulling the strings. However, this probably isn't the discussion for this thread, and I'm sure most would rather I didn't derail things even further (as I so often do ...).

Thanks for your comments. I don't think it is a complete "derail" as many people think they have to buy domestic or support bail-outs in order to "support the economy" and to help our "free society".

Honda is having issues with their v6 burning oil, and they can't seem to figure out why. I worked as a tech at Honda, and I have a friend who still works there, and he's doing pistons and rings on v6's like they're going out of style.
