2016 Tacoma ECT ?

Great way to start a thread as I (and I assume some other "new" Tacoma owners) have the same question. Took me a minute to get through those responses that try to make you look like a fool just because the manual (p. 196) doesn't fully explain how it works or tells you it releases jet packs. My question is this: after reading the various "helpful" posts I tried the ECT function. When I engaged the button, the ECT indicator became visible on the instrument panel. However, when I tried to disengage it by pushing the button again, the shift points seemed to change back but the indicator still stayed lit. I then pulled over, turned the truck off, and when restarted the indicator light was off. I was in town and didn't get over 40 mph...was this the issue? Some member will probably respond by telling me to "don't use the ECT" but I would appreciate it if someone would explain to a DA like me exactly how the button/indicator functions and yes, I know, the button goes in and out.

 

I notice it at any speed.
I also noticed an increase in my current mpg display when engaging ECT.

 

my ECT light goes out when it turn it off while driving.....
