I think most manufacturers state that even if the seat is empty, they should be replaced. And I believe most insurance companies play by this rule.

My mom got rear-ended by a kid not paying attention, luckily I had they day off so my son wasn't with her, but the kids insurance paid to replace every car seat and booster seat in her van (3 or 4 seats), even though they were empty. So good call. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS replace the car seats, regardless of how minor the accident.

I got the one at Costco it's a cobra cdr 840. Had to look it up. Apparently it doesn't get great reviews though. I have never had a problem with mine though. Easy to set it up and lock recordings.

Good to know! Thanks for the reply! I have found that most of the stuff I look at on Costco's site doesn't really have great reviews, but Costco is great about returns and I really don't think they sell junk. I will have to do more research on this camera as it is only $99. Some of the others I have heard mentioned on here run $300+, and then you still have to add the rear camera...

I did think of an annoyance with it. 95% of the time it starts with the truck but sometimes it doesn't and you have to turn it on. Happened this morning. I'm not sure if it is some fail safe for cold weather or what, but otherwise it has done well with the cold.

As for Costco their price to quality ratio is awesome. They have above average quality stuff at average prices. I think it would be a fun job to make product purchasing decisions for them.

Here is the happy ending to my story. The insurance gave me a very good payout and I decided it was worth upgrading to a 2016. They decided I was not at fault after reviewing the police report so they refunded my deductible as well as paid for a new car seat. I don't have rental car coverage so 10 days of the rental car was out of pocket but they will attempt to recover that from the at fault driver's insurance. Thanks again to everybody on this thread for your support and advice!

I had a 03 pre runner that got hit in the drivers door and all down the side of the extended cab and bed by a semi, I walked away an insurance gave me more than I paid for for the truck. The body shop told me they can never find used parts and new ones are expensive, it took me two years to finnaly find another extended cab 4x4!

Maybe this is the real reason they totaled my 2013?

Thanks! Its pretty basic. V6 SR5 with tow package, alloy wheel locks, D-Rings and exhaust tip. I have an Amp Research Bed Extender ready to install and my wish list includes a tonneau cover, nerf bars, and a dash cam based on the advice on this thread.

I was rear ended in '04 in my Matrix. When I went to get it fixed, I asked the body shop about repairing it vs replacing it.

They told me its more cost effective for them to just replace parts, as it takes too much time to repair them.

Glad you and your daughter are ok!
