I was wondering if anyone has ever used this stuff in resealing their headlights. I'm looking at Permatex Ultra Black - RTV Silicone Gasket Maker or Permatex the Right Stuff - Gasket Maker. Not really sure which one to get. I've used the retro rubber from TRS and it works really well, only down side is that you have to heat it up before reapplying the lenses. This stuff seems like you just need to clean out the old sealant and then lay the new stuff and press the lenses into the housings. Looking for some opinions and info on these products, thanks!

Someone else will need to confirm this.... but I think the overall issue with RTV in retrofits is the outgassing of the product being trapped in the lens area. This tends to cause issues.

Thanks for the info! Anyone else know if this is the case?

Yep. Do not use. It will probably outgas. Butyl is what you want to use. Reheating to reseal really isn't that big a deal. Just don't reheat it too long or too hot. And don't clamp it too tight. Only takes slight pressure to reseal.

I usually use a heat gun to reseal now if I have halos on the build. Had built a pair and put them in the oven to reseal and the halo turned yellow. But thanks for the heads up on the permatex! Just gonna stick with the retrorubber.
