Rough Idle???

    1996 Tacoma 3.4L 4WD
    I have a '96 Toyota Tacoma which began idling rough while the vehicle is in drive but with a foot on the brake. My truck normally sits right under the 1 RPM while I'm in drive but this time the needle was well under the 1 RPM and began to bounce rapidly. It also made my truck sound like I was revving the engine. I tried to go on the freeway and my truck wouldn't go faster than 50 MPH and began to shake. Since this incident, I had my fuel filter replaced but the truck is still idling rough. Does anyone have any possible ideas on what this could be? Oh and the check engine light DID NOT come on. Thank you!!
