My Son wants a new desk for his room to do homework and stuff on. I told him that we would build one to his design.

I am going to document the build here. It is going to be built out of quarter sawn red oak. I picked it all up locally.

Planing the boards down. The fleck and figure is pretty cool.

...any thoughts on the finish to go w/?... for red oak, I've found a couple coats of watco Danish oil (natural) imparts a nice warm reddish-brown tone, and then a few coats of wipe-on poly for topcoat looks outstanding...

I'm thinking of using Waterlox or General Finishes arm-r-seal. Both have a nice warm glow. We may do a dye first to help bring out the fleck of the quarter sawn oak.

oh, that would be great!... I haven't used waterlox (yet), but I've heard it has quite a reputation for a great-looking finish... ...and the ray fleck figure in the red oak has a great look when finished!
