Just ordered some dually LEDs by Rigid Industries to use as aux reverse lights. I know that there has to be a thread on this somewhere but I had no luck with a search. If someone could direct me to a helpful thread specific to this application I would appreciate it. If anyone has any pictures of this setup or helpful tips that would be great too!

Do you want them independent or to come on with your backup lights?

I was going to have them independent so I can switch them on whenever I want. This means I dont need a relay right?

If the wiring kit had one, you need it.

You still need to use a relay

I'll have to see when it gets here but according to the website the kit just includes a wiring harness and switch. What purpose does the relay serve if the lights are on an independent switch?

The relay is used to power lights that draw more current than the switch can handle. Typically switches are less than 20 amps.

Dually's pull under 10 amps I think so a relay isn't really necessary but it is still a good thing to have. The wiring harness they come with has one built in I think.

Here's the way I wired mine for an 'on anytime' and turn on automatically when shifted into reverse:

The wire labeled 'from backup light switch' is the factory reverse light wire.

Thanks for the comments guys..turns out the wiring harness included an in-line fuse. Just had to connect to the battery, run the switch into the cab, and route the wire to the back of the truck.

What path did you follow when routing the wiring from the engine bay to the rear lights?

Me? I went through the firewall grommet, stored the relay behind the panel next to the clutch, ran wire under the door sill panel, through another existing grommet next to the driver seat going under the truck, then loomed it and went above/inside/next to the frame as high and clean as I could. It gets a little tight and hard to feed around the gas tank area.

Cool, thank you. Just trying to figure out the easiest path to run wiring to dual rear floods

I also went through the firewall grommet to get the switch into the cab. Then went out through the engine bay and to the back bumper by following the factory harness that runs under the truck. I zip-tied the wires for the Rigids to the factory harness.

This is how I was going to wire up my reverse lights also. One question though. Why do you need the diode for a lighted switch? I could see a diode between the splice and factory reverse lights if you don't want the factory lights to come if you're using your aux lights as area lights.

I actually didn't use a diode, I'm not sure why that's in there (pulled that diagram from another website). It's been working great!

That's good news. I was just going to unplug the factory lights and run the factory wiring to the duallys, but I want a switch to use them as scene lights also.
