27F is a larger battery than the 24F. The specifications are probably different also.

27 batteries are 1-2 inches wider, depending on the casings within the brand name. They will also have a longer reserve rating, again, within the name brand. And I believe 27's come standard with tow package. Mine had a 27 but now carry a Costco Interstate 24. I'm collecting parts to add a 2nd, isolated, battery.

I guess it's possible under ideal conditions such as when a car is driven 20+ plus miles a stretch so that the battery is constantly kept fully charged by the alternator. Short drives will kill a battery as it will not have time to recover from starting the engine. Good for you.

27F is the standard size battery for US tow package trucks and all Canadian trucks

For those going with a dual battery set up due to added auxiliary awesomeness and overland use (self-jumping if needed), I presume you're using a 27F for your engine and winch. My question is what size are you going with for your auxiliary battery?

I'm considering going with a yellow top 27F Optima (engine and winch only) and a Optima Blue top for auxiliary use. Or.... would just doubling up on the yellow top 27F be the best approach?

My 2009 with a 27F (built 7/2008) lasted until Nov 2015). Replaced with Duralast Gold 27F. First 3 years on OEM had a 20 mile roundtrip commute. Since now retired, try to combine trips and avoid less than 10 mile short trips. Heat ie 95+ really kills batteries more than cold.

Do you have a Costco near you? Kirkland brand car batteries have better life, warranty, cold cranking amps, and a better price point than most batteries on the market. Seriously, check them out.

So Autozone doesn't have a 27F AGM, neither does Sears. Any other options besides Optima or Northstar?

My TRD has the tow package, so I'll get a 27F. Looking at the Odyssey Extreme. $230 from 4WheelParts.

My factory battery in my 2008 is still working and has yet to give me any problems. I will probably start looking to replace it soon before it does just die on me. I bought the truck new in Alaska and she did just fine through 3 years up there. Trucks has been in every kind of weather from -40F to 115F. Looks like I have a lot of options when it comes to battery selection. Sucks to hear people having problems with their battery when it's only a couple years old.

Sadly after years and years of a great made in America battery by Odyssy they're now made in Mexico and the stories of having them take a shit are popping up more and more. Not uncommon to hear from people that have had them replaced 3 times in a year under warranty. Seems like Northstar is the way to go if you want that middle of no where Overland reliability. Of course that's if your pockets are deep enough for those. If you're just a weekend camper and maybe take a week per year off to go hunting then your Costco, autozone, Sam's, etc will take care of you just fine for a more palatable price

Most guys don't even need replacement batteries. It's a want thing. Best bet before going for an upgrade and or dual is to swap out the OEM cables including the ground and alternator cables to 00 welding wire. This will allow for complete alternator performance with no resistance. However, if you're the type of guy to go into the middle of nowhere, get drunk and pass out with your lights on then dual battery with a Blue Sea ML ACR is probably a smart idea.

OEM is plenty to last till real replacement is required.

I'm going on 5 years with the OEM and I see no reason to go with another when it's time for a replacement (which I'm considering at the 5 year mark in May).

According to the Odyssey website they are still made here in the US?

"ODYSSEY batteries are manufactured to strict quality standards in two facilities globally: Warrensburg, Missouri USA and Newport, Wales United Kingdom."
