frist of all, This my own opinion and straight facts on what I have seen and feel on the trucks. I took the advantage of the letter from local dealer for a 48 hr test without no commint on sale. I got 2016 SR5 AC 4x4 with 3.5 V6 auto. for 2 days mix driving highway and seconardy roads. I will make it clear,, fanboys and the nickpickers,, the door is on the right side and I don't need the crap from you. Iam open minded and let others have a chance to think about what they want to buy the new taco.
From Demellow's view is closely what I have but will add few pointers
The exterior view: nice mellow change in shape, the front is tad ugly but it will grows on ya abit. the tires,, not dunlops flops its Hancook brand,, its better!
interioer,, great change,, love the air vents no problems,, sight different setup on buttons etc.. not picky radio not picky.. enough room to be comfry in,, the seat is firmer than the 14 taco. no height change unless you got sunroof. the line of sight on the hood is ok,, noticeable higher than the 14,, cant see good toward the pass. side.. not wild on that.
the engine is preppy and quick, somewhat smooth respond. the shift points are higher with ect mode,, which is good on FLAT ROADS not so good on hills and secondary roads. runs abit higher rpm on that. with ect off,, works good still the cruise control sucks on both ways not like the 14. NOTE**** there is a light buzz feeling on stearing and next to gas pedal on vary rpm and there is a topic on this. this not normal as per mother Toyota. waiting what the solution for it. The engine runs higher HP and less torqure. something wanna think about comes using for a workhorse on your job and towing. oil filter is canster, either love it or hate it
SO I am not going to buy the 16 until they weed the bugs out!
The other two trucks I tested are GMC canyon 4 door 3.6 V6 shortbox auto. the exterior looks a lot nicer than taco. inside,, nice well set gauges . The steering wheel,, poor not enough room to move it. the view mirror right dead center of view,, blocking your pass side partial. side mirrors are ok, hated the driverside blind spot,, itty bitty. the overall inside is kinda "mush",, not enough room to spread leg out. find my body is straped in a flight chair.
the engine, 3.6L,, smoother than the 3.5 taco. shift point is on spot no jumping. plenty of power and it can tow 7000 lbs load. handling is great,, ( same for taco also).
So I am disappointed that canyon is not roomy enough. oil filter is canster either love or hate it
The other GMC truck I tested is the double cab 4x4 1500,, I know is not surpose to be on this but I will add it. LOTS of room..5.3 L is damn nice and very smooth. far cry over the taco and canyon. well placed gauges. very please with it.
Last truck will be the Ford 1500 4x4. 3.5L V6 soon.
SO there you have it.... fanboys and singlemind trolls :brianr:

Thinking about printing this out and using it as a "can you find all the mistakes" assignment for my 6th grade students. That will kill a couple of hours of class time.

When they first posted pictures up of the Canyon I thought it looked pretty good, and the interior looked real kush. This was before I knew the new Tacoma was coming out, and I was pretty excited to see a new mid-size come to the market. When I finally got a chance to check one out I was very underwhelmed. I thought the ride was nice and soft, but it didn't feel like a truck, more like one of those CUV's. I didn't really like that about it, but I could see how it would appeal to some people. My major gripe was the interior. In pictures it looked so nice, and I've always felt the full-size GM truck/SUV had a real nice interior. The Canyon felt cheaper to me though. The trim pieces felt like slick low quality plastic, and just didn't really appeal to me. Whereas it was the opposite with the Tacoma. When I saw pictures of it, I thought the interior looked like too much plastic and was worried it would feel cheaper than the Canyon. When I actually saw one and got to drive it I realized that while there is a lot of plastic, it had a different feel to it, and I actually liked it. It also felt tighter and better assembled to me. The soft rubberish looking plastic of the Tacoma grew on me and I started to like the look of it, it felt nice to me, and it will be easy to keep clean that's for sure. I know everyone has their own opinion on this, and to each their own, but this is just my own impression. I really wish the seat had an up/down adjustment, but that's probably my only gripe. Mainly because my wife can't get the seat high enough to see over the giant hood.

One man's honest opinion of the trucks he looked at. A little bit blunt on a few other things but all well. This is the internet.

I disagree with you on the room on the canyon. I felt it has a ton more room then the Taco. But to each thier own. I don't tend to gangsta lean.

I had invaluable help from my Toyota salesman when I couldn't decide between the 2015 or 2016 Tacoma.

He asked how flexible I was. I thought that was kind of odd, so I asked him how that would matter.

He said, let me demonstrate. Bend over and rest your hands on your knees.

I said OK, that's simple enough, but I don't see how this accomplishes anything.

Hold on, he said. Bend over further and touch your toes.

I did, but again voiced doubt of his methods.

Be patient, he urged. Just one more test. Extend your spine as far as you can, and place your head up your ass.

    I can't do that! I exclaimed.

Hmmmm, he said...Buy the 2016 Tacoma.

I'm really wanting to hear honest, unbiased reports on the 16's. I won't be ready to buy for at least another year, but want to learn as much about them as I can in the meantime. I think I'll like em in spite of some negative comments. I'm not normally one to be a grammar NAZI, but I couldn't make it all the way through that.

Not sure what trim level Canyon you are looking at but the Canyon SLT with Coco/Beige leather blows away anything the Tacoma has to offer. Not sure what you are talking about with the plastic? The Canyon has the same rubber knobs as the Tacoma. The Canyon also uses real aluminum pieces on the steering wheel and dash.
