Used 2013 Tacoma TRD Off-Road found for sale has a hood scoop. How is that possible?

I am looking at used 2013 Tacomas. Found one with the TRD Off Road badging, Chrome back bumper, Rear differential lock button, No turn signal on the rear view mirrors. All the features that indicate a TRD Off Road model.

Odd thing is the truck has a hood scoop. Was this an option in 2013 for the Off Road model or would it have been added after market (or god forbid after a wreak repair)?

Not an option.

But hoods are easily changed. Inspect for front end damage. Or it could just be a hood swap which is not uncommon.

 

Either a stick on scoop or swapped with a sport. Check around the bolts and see if the paint is cracked/chipped. Believe it or not, some sport owners don't like the skewp.

 

See if you can get a car fax report for accident history, or maybe previous owner added it

Check the hood scoop swap thread, see if that truck appears there. ..
