i am finally dipping my toe into the pool of "medium" bore pellet rifles. i ordered a .22 air-rifle. i opted for a Hatsun AT-44 QE. it is muffled, so it is supposed to be damn quiet. Hatsun chronos the guns with real lead bullets so the FPS advertised are very close to accurate. other companies, i was told use ultra light weight alloy pellets..dunno.

my friends have a hunting contest. we hope to take a turkey with a pellet. it feels like a challenge!!

you dont understand how i agonized between a Maurader and the AT-44. it was almost too close to call, and in the end, i went with what i read was the quieter rifle. this thing is a real gun and i not shootable in a rural yard. no way. i will not be able to shoot it unless i visit friend's bigger farm lots.

    anyone hunting with AIR?

I use air guns for varmint control (rabbits and ground squirrel). I don't eat them, but the hawks and coyotes cleanup in no time. I have the Marauder in 0.22 and 0.25. They are both very quiet although the 0.25 definitely has a little more snap. I added an extension to the barrel on the 25 which gives it two more baffles and knocks the sound level down almost to the .22 level. Sound wise, I think they are very rural yard shootable. I guess it depends on what you have for a back stop. We are on the side of the hill with a rise to one side so I have great backstops in most directions and a field to the back and sides. We are also not in city limits (County of SD) so the laws are much more relaxed. I sometimes plink outside for an hour and have never had a problem.

I saw the Youtube video review Rick Eutsler did on the Hatsun AT-44 QE in 0.25. It seems like a very nice air rifle. There weren't too many options in affordable PCP airguns when I bought my Marauders. The $500 range PCP market is really taking off. What will you be using to fill (scuba tank or pump)?

I have some belly fat that I need to get rid of, but my laziness won out. That pumping looks like a lot of work! I found a used steel scuba tank for a good price and went with that (3500psi so you can get quite a few fills on the rifle from that).
Air guns are fun hobby. Ammo is easy to fine and dirt cheap compared to fire arms. Here is my .25 Marauder. The bunnies and squirrels no longer tear the heck out of my property any more and it sure is fun picking them off.

Like the guns hate the tanks and filled up these toys do make the wallet go twice lighter than the real fire arms.
Edit: so stay with Gamo Cfx .22

Been looking into purchasing an air rifle for varmints and target practice to get me out of the house more . So many options ! Watched some videos on the Airforce Texan , something to be said about a .45 cal pig killin' BB gun ! The fact the guy had a $10,000 night optic on it befuddled me , but to each his own

Right. Expensive for sure. Here I can legally shoot a turkey w one. That alone was worth the cost of admission. .22 rifles are cheaper for sure, but it's a different gun. My rifle isn't a toy. But it is fun.
