    Interesting it says 91 octane there. The manual states 87, IIRC.

    I have been running regular unleaded from Day one. Never had a problem other than mileage is 16 mpg. I am now wondering if premium would make a difference. With a compression of 11.8 to 1; premium should be used.

    Does anyone on TW run on premium, and if so; how is mpg and/or any issues?

    Manual says 87. With Atkinson Cycle you can get away with low octane fuel in a high compression engine because some of the air/fuel mixture exits the combustion chamber when the piston is on its way up on the compression stroke.

    6 bolt mains and forged rods and crank. seems like a pretty roubust engine that will last a long time. or handle some power adders if...haha

    Lemme try:
    Research Octane Number (RON) is 91
    Anti-Knock Index (AKI) 87, is the rating on gas pumps we use here in 'merica (USA) and often written on pumps as (R+M)/2)
    Basically, 91 RON has the same octane rating a 87 AKI.

    So the way octane is calculated is RON(Research Octane Number)+MON(Motor Octane Number)/2. That calculation gives you the 87, 89, and 91 you see. It's supposed to be labeled on the machine. Some don't do the division and you'll see higher numbers since they'll list RON only.

    I've ran premium since day one, actually refused the dealers free tank of gas to do so haha. Mixed driving with interstate, highway, and town I'm getting around 20. My truck is all stock at the moment and has around 600 miles.

    Old timers have always told me it just runs cleaner and keeps the engine cleaner. Maybe with the new technology these days it don't matter but I plan on running this truck until it quits so opted to run the premium.
