Have to agree, one of the best things I did was add solar to my FWC. I used Solar Blvd as well. My controller is a Morningstar and works like a champ.

This build is great. You really go into detail and I appreciate that alot! So thank you!

Quick question, where did you get the L Track from? Any specific brands or any tid bits I should know before purchasing? Yours fit perfectly in there.

It's February now, so that means it's summer time here in San Diego. Yesterday it was 85°F and full sun, so I thought I'd move my wheel switch project forward.

4Runner limited wheels washed and cleaned after the torch and brass brush treatment.

Brand new Denso TPMS sensors come with hardware. Made in Japan. OEM quality all the way around.

Mounted sensors on all four wheels, and sensor ID's noted on wheels. I'm ready for tire shop to swap rubber now.

I've still got to refurbish the wheel ornaments. I'll be picking up a can of the silver duplicolor paint soon, and 400 grit paper thanks to @scocar :)

I also sold that steel spare wheel/tire I got from the craigslist 4runner wheel deal. Sold for $40

I also weighed the 4runner limited wheel and it weighs

The other day, truck did home transport duty, hauling new mattress home from Costco.

When buying a new mattress or box sping the store now charges $11 recycling fee for each item.

New state mandated program for recycling. Despite this $22 they collected from me, they will not take the old mattress. I called around and it would cost anywhere from $45-$85 to dispose of the old mattress and box spring.

I surmise that mattresses will continue to be found behind stores and dumped in open fields, etc. No common sense whatsoever. And a pain in the ass...

It took me 20 minutes to break down the old box spring and put into my trash can. Might have to hang onto the mattress for a about 60 days until they have a city centralized waste collection event where they'll take it from me.

This is awesome! Thanks! I've got nothing to loose by trying. :) Mattress is currently in my living room floor wrapped in a large blanket, where my kids jump on it endlessly for hours. lol

    Bureaucracy at it's finest

Not to worry though, you can rest assured that the $22 will find it's way into some grant for a congressman's nephew to study underwater gerbil flatulence or something.

and the kids jumping on the mattress is called "repurposing". as it's the ultimate form of recycling, maybe you should apply for a grant yourself?

I'm sure it's much worse in California, but we've had similar situations in Colorado.

There'll be a dry year, reservoirs will be low, and they'll implement watering restrictions.

Lawns watered on designated days, can't wash your car in the driveway things like that.

Then the conservation campaign will be so successful that the municipalities will see a significant drop in revenue. So they hike the rates to make up for it.

Come to think of it, there's probably something illegal about your brilliant reuse of grey water. You're redirecting treated potable water that would've been returned to the treatment plant via the sewer system. Instead, it's going into the storm water system or the aquifer. Now that you've posted it on the internet, keep an eye out for the black helicopters.

I was threatened with fines several years ago for a rain barrel that was attached to the downspout of one of the gutters on my house. It was there when I bought the house but I was told that it was "stealing" water.

I think the laws have changed a bit and capturing a small amount is OK now as long as you "put it back" by using it only on the lawn or something.

    Crazy stuffo_O

No, the Sequoia wheels are aluminum but the POR 15 etch primer sticks really well to metal.

Your experience with the rain barrel doesn't surprise me. I've heard similar reports about capturing rainwater around here too. Water wars are pretty crazy. The four year drought has created some interesting political dialog about water usage and usage rights.

I think your description is exactly what happened here too. Reservoirs are at all time lows, etc. Everyone was so successful in saving water, that revenues declined sharply, so the rates rose after water boards voted. This year is supposed to be a turning point, maybe an end to the four year drought we have been in.
This winter has had some epic storms for us. On Jan 5-6, I saw epic downpours that overwhelmed many places. A lady I knew parked in an unfortunate place and her car got hydro locked when she went to start it and blew the engine. Her insurance took care of it. lol

I captured this little video on Jan 6th, going home from work.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bjXMop_NOo

Regarding the grey water... A small modern miracle happened back in 2011, an innovative plumber successfully lobbied to change the grey water code in California to make laundry to landscape legal. My system is all broke down now, but when operational, all of the water was absorbed by the lawn. Had it overflowed to the street, I'd be in hot water. :D

Interesting. EDIT: I see you're using self-etching primer, not the paint. Good to know. Thx.

Last summer we started putting a bucket under the condensate pipe from the A/C. Collected 5-10 gallons of water a day that went to the citrus trees. This year is our best tangerine year and only orange year to date!

Now to think about the washer....

The other factor regarding rates is that any water districts that need to buy water transfers from willing sellers to meet local demand are doing so at a very expensive premium.

    That's impressive!

You just reminded me, I once read something about someone who was trying to capture water condensation from their vehicle AC system. Just a curiosity, but I wonder...

I have a TDS meter... I may try an experiment just to see what the numbers are. :D

Yup. I can't begin to even try and understand it all. The legal framework is pretty nuts. San Diego recently won a large lawsuit against MWD (Los Angeles) to the tune of $188 million for illegal transportation charges, stemming from contracts dating from 2011-2014.

This all reminds me of the interpretive panels at the Mono Lake Visitors center talking about Water Wars. We even have a dedicated Wiki page for it. California Water Wars, dating back to the 1880's
